Failed first round 😩

Hi ladies,

So on Saturday afternoon I started with a headache and when I went to the toilet I noticed a very light pink/brown spotting and cramps which I thought could be implantation bleeding! This carried on all day Sunday and started to become more pink in colour. However, I woke up Monday morning and dear old AF decided to make an appearance. My AF is regular every 28 days and even after taking progesterone capsules 3 x daily, AF still manages to turn up on time..oh the irony of it all!! Laughable really 😂. Anyway, I rang the clinic who said to continue with the pessaries and still do the test, OTD is today then they wanted me to test again Friday. Of course the test was a BFN and I know it will be the same Friday. I was upset about yesterday but today is another day..so the plan is to get back to gym, stop these meds and make plans for the next step! Luckily I’ve got a frostie that I can use! Has anybody experienced this with starting AF during a cycle and what it could mean? Xx

Hi Natty I'm so sorry to hear about your first round not working. I hope you are okay? You don't have to bounce back instantly so don't put any pressure on yourself to do anything right now 😘 Other than all the nice things of course 😊

I think it's quite common for AF to arrive during the 2ww even with the pessaries. I haven't had that but reading people's experiences here it seems very common. Did they check your progesterone levels before the transfer? It may be that they need to switch to a different method to help your body to absorb the progesterone better.

It is all a learning experience and they say the first transfer usually doesn't work as they are finding what works for you and your body. I'm happy that you have a frostie 😊

Sending you a big hug xxx

Oh and definitely continue any meds until your test on Friday because you never know! Xx

Thanks keepingfaith. Just feeling abit down but I’ll be ok. I was due back in work tomorrow but decided to take the rest of the week off as I can’t be bothered with work at the moment. I don’t think I had my progesterone levels checked..that’s something I’ll mention at the follow up.xx

Def push too have your progesterone checked I didn’t on my first failed round... in in my tww now but I pushed for the test and they increased my dosage immediately after transfer as my levels were low so I have and injection on top of pessaries.

In the mean time take time, and sending u love xx

Awh pet , so many comment about Aunt Flo on the progesterone . So weird! Mine was dying to come from day before her original due time but my dose was enough to keep her away. I kept taking my meds until OTD too just because I knew I’d be sad anyway so just kept to the progrAmme. I figured at least they’ll learn stuff from how my body responded etc .

It came with a vengeance LOL! Everything had gone smoothly so far until this. Hopefully they will tweak it next time so it doesn’t happen again..I’ll carry on with the meds till Friday xx

So sorry for your BFN.

In two of my cycles I have had AF arrive before test day, as early as 8dp2det. This was despite my progesterone levels being normal and taking 3x as much more than I needed... When I asked the consultant about it he said that it was simply because although you are on the progesterone your body knows that no implantation has happened and so all other hormone levels drop enough for you to start AF. He said its very common and not a sign of anything being wrong or anything to worry about, in fact its your body functioning exactly as it should do.

The first round failing is always one of the worst experiences because you are so full of hope and you have often waited so long for the 'magic fix', however I also think the first round is just your body working out what it has to do, I know so many people who go onto have a BFP their second round (we did! Sadly we Mc) so when you are ready try and think of this as your trial run and next time round your body will know exactly what it is doing.

Hugs xx

Thanks for the reply Daisy. This answers my question then. If my progesterone levels are normal I suppose they would then look into why implantation didn’t take place and then tweak it for the next round. Thank god this group is here to answer questions ect. Xx

Sorry to hear about your AF coming and your BFN. A stupidly difficult result to see. And just not fair! There's no rhyme or reason on getting pregnant. Ugh. Take your time to grieve and we'll be here for you for the next steps of your journey. Sending lots of love and hugs. xxxx
