Immature follicle help!

So my egg collection is due in 4 days and two days ago my scan showed my follicles haven’t matured much further - the biggest two are only 13 and 14mm. They need to be 18mm + as you guys prob know, and I’m worrying they have hit a block and won’t grow anymore on the same dose of menopur.

My estrogen level is high so apparently “doesn’t match” the follicle size - they should technically be bigger. I have a horrid feeling they have hit a block, almost got “used” to this dose of menopur and won’t grow further without upping the dose but the consultants are reluctant as of course don’t want to overstim.

Because my estrogen is high they say they will continue to grow and may just delay/postpone egg collection another two days - but is it possible they have just grown all they can?

I almost feel inside, somehow that they need another boost - a higher dose even just for a couple of days.

Has anyone experienced this, when their follicles really struggle to grow bigger?

The reason I haven’t ovulated in a decade is because my follicles never mature enough. So I am already impressed they made it this far. But on the same note am worried they won’t make it further without more help!

What dose are you on?

Same thing happened to me on my first cycle. I ended up only getting 1 egg that was mature. They have upped my dose but we’re reluctant to put it up too much for fear of over stim.

I think we just need to put our trust in them and hope and pray. Xxx

I absolutely do, as I know an overestim would screw the whole cycle. However I really don’t feel they will mature any further without even just one or two days of a slightly higher dose. Maybe I’m panicking but you know when you feel you just know somehow?! I haven’t felt any of the symptoms I felt when they were growing before, no little twinges or any symptoms actually. I feel like my body has already got used to this dose - the pink/purple caps of menopur, I think 150ml?

What happened with the one mature follicle you had? I’m assuming you went onto another cycle?

Yeh I know what you mean. I felt the same. I knew they weren’t going to grow enough. I thought they were going to cancel the retrieval cos the nurse had said they could. I was on 150. No twinges or anything. My sister was doubled in pain with the same dose. (She got 10 follicles, 8 eggs and 5 fertilised.) I knew when talking to her it wasn’t going to be great.

They went ahead and I got 2 eggs and 1 was used with icsi but unfortunately it didn’t fertilise so that was the end of our cycle.

Started cycle 2 today. Fingers crossed for us both lovely. Xxx

I haven’t ovulated in a decade so I know they’re gonna need a bit more time or dosage. I’m hopeful of course but I really do think it’s worth trying to up it just a little bit. But I know they know what they’re doing, so just hope my follicles will pull thru!

Sorry to hear about your Dad, I read your story and wish you all the luck! I never pass anything in life first time, lol! I think it takes a few goes sometimes to get your body used to it. Hopefully. How many follicles did you have on your first scan? Mine was looking quite positive but then no growth on the next few. Xxx

I only had 2 follicles measuring big enough and one at like 14cm.

Thank you love, it was really hard losing my daddy but I have faith he is with me guiding me thru and it’s going to happen this time.

The clinic are doing a fine balance. It's probably preferred to have you slowly grow these follicles rather than whack you on full dose. I stimmed for over 2 weeks.

I was told they want 3 over 18mm however ones over 15mm can still have an egg in them

Thank you so much for the quick reply! I've been told they "will" grow, but are just growing slowly now...but they grew very quickly in the first week and now I'm just worried they won't reach 18mm! So if they don't, you're saying there is a chance they may still use them? Thanks again!

Well it's still early days. Just got to hold in there and there's plenty of time and menopur dose to go before you should be concerned
