Getting nowhere - incorrect dosage

I’ve had two rounds of IVF so far. And haven’t got anywhere near transfer so looking for some advice and to see if anyone has experienced difficulty getting the drug dose right?

First round, I was given 150 menopur and the last two days my does was increased to 300. At egg collection they got only took 4 eggs, however there were lots of smaller immature follicles. Unfortunately none of the 4 mature were fertilised.

Second round they said they would increase to 300 menopur straight away. All looked like it was going well and on track for 10+ eggs for collection then my bloods came back with increasing high levels. They coasted me for 2 days but then decided to cancel my egg collection at the risk of OHSS. They didn’t want to freeze the eggs either as they would have been coasted for four days so would be mature but starved of menopur.

I’m waiting for a doctor to call me and discuss what happened. My round was cancelled on Friday so it’s frustrating not to hear any advice back yet. The nurse said I will have to wait a few months before starting again. Which suggests 3 long months wait. Is this right?

Has anyone had this issue with getting the dosage just right?

I naively thought this was the easy bit.

I had 24 follicles in the end and they didn’t stop my cycle, maybe they are really sensitive to ohs being triggered? Be interesting to see what the plan is for your next cycle. I had an iui cycle cancels due to ohss and had to wait a while to start again, cycle cancelled sept and started again and had transfer in Nov x

Oh that’s good you got so many. I hope they fertilised well. Did you end up developing OHSS?

I went from about 15 on the Wednesday to over 30 follicles on the Friday and my bloods were 33,000. Not that means much to me but apparently for egg collection levels can’t be higher than 27/28000. And I still had to have the trigger shot and get through the weekend for collection on the Monday so I think they were worried my levels would continue going up.

I’m mentally preparing for September. I hope it’s not longer than that, but we will see.

Hey no I didn’t. 24 follicles, 16 collected, 9 mature, 3 fertilised! Got a bfp with all 3 and ended up with two boys.

I know it’s a kick in the teeth with a cancelled cycle but what’s meant to me. Your body will have chance to rest and reset ready for your babe xxx

I had really bad experience with my first Cycle they put the dose too low and although I got 12 eggs I only ended up with one untested Embryo which failed on Transfer. I actually moved clinics for my second and the protocol was completely different with a much higher dose and although we got less eggs with have one really good quality embryo. I am now looking more into other things outside the dose, to explain why our numbers are turning out quite low - starting with loosing weight to hopefully give us a better chance on our next try. This was never even suggested at our first clinic as a possibility. So I think what I'm trying to say for you would be to maybe get another opinion at another clinic? I really found switching was a good move. Hopefully that helps with a different perspective!

Why did they cancel collection due to risk of OHSS? That should be a reason to cancel collection only a reason to cancel a fresh transfer but they could have collected and done a freeze all?

*shouldn't

I had started to develop OHSS a few days before collection which they spotted due to fluid in my ovaries so they put me on tablets to stop that straight away but still went ahead and did my egg collection and then a freeze all

Sounds like it was their decision to coast that caused the issues. When you get your review, I would also explore why it was necessary and the frequency of your blood tests.

I really hope you get satisfactory answers as it must be soo disappointing to have gone through 2 rounds and no transfer.
