Hi there. Having tried to conceive for 2 years, I am having hysteroscopy and laproscopy surgery next week to further investigae what appears to be a septum in my cervix alongside a heart shaped womb. I am so scared I will be told I will not be able to carry a child. Has anyone experienced anythign similar?

Hi Lavendertea. That's great news that you've got this procedure booked in and they can further investigate . Please try not to worry about the absolute worst case scenario, and try to think about it as a positive step that they can see if there's anything wrong, so that they can work out how to get you in the best possible place to get pregnant. Depending on what they find, there will be different solutions. Some they can fix during the procedure. I had this done last year. I was also very apprehensive, not least because I'd never had general anaesthetic before! I also had a heart shaped womb/septum, which they dealt with whilst they were "in there". They also found a small amount of endometriosis, which they removed. It seems like a drastic step, but it really is just a routine step in fertility investigations. Crazily. Lots of love.

Hiya.

I have my follow up Following the operation on Thursday.

They put in a coil following the surgery and will take it out.

I just wondered what your experience was following the surgery

What did they put a coil in for? I think I only took a week to recover fully and I was back at work, but obviously that's different for everyone. Don't think I had a follow up appointment, though! The next appointment we had was 6 months later and it was just to be approved for NHS IVF.

They said the coil was to stop the sides of my womb sticking together whilst it heals.

I havent had ivf mentioned yet as there doesn't seem to be anything else wrong aside from the septum.

I was also put on a course of oestrogen then a week of progesterone (again to help with the womb liming I believe.

Just scared and confused

That's great news that they didn't find anything wrong! Hopefully now you can move on with trying to conceive. Everything to do with TTC and gynae stuff seems to be confusing because there's so much to it. What are you scared about? xxxx
