Hi all

Does anyone know how he donor egg process works on the NHS? I’ve not been able to find much information about it...

Does anyone know if there’s an option to meet your egg donor? Either through the NHS or privately? And if not, what information do they actually provide you with and what is the matching process like?

Hiya there, I'm an egg donor myself so could answer a few of your questions for you 😊

I'm due to start treatment privately in Sept. I'm getting a cycle free in exchange for egg donation as I can't conceive due to blocked tubes.

My process started way back in March, so is lengthy. It's all done anonymously, so you can't meet the donor but any child conceived through egg donation can find info out about the donor after the age of 18. I have provided the clinic with characteristics, occupation, hobbies and had to fill out a form to say a little bit about myself (this is for the child if they wish to get donor details). The clinic I go to match for you, so the recipient of the eggs didn't pick through a selection of donors or anything. They put their match forward to the receipient and they can accept or reject the offer. After acceptance of the donation, a final appt is booked to sign consent and get treatment plan and drugs (mine is 23rd Aug) Screening bloods are done a couple of times throughout the process along with some scans too. Half of the total eggs collected, gets given to the receipient (if odd number collected, the donor gets the extra egg)

Hope this help xx

Oh wow, that’s really helpful and interesting. I didn’t realise private clinics offered a free trial in that respect! Thank you for the details x

Hiyah. I've had DE treatment privately. I'm not aware that there is an option to meet the donor at any UK clinics but it may be something offered in the US as I think you can request photographs in some instances. The HFEA website and Donor Conception Network website can probably provide the correct information for the UK. My clinic provided very detailed profiles of the donors. This included physical characteristics and a profile written by the donor, which described their personality, interests, reasons for donating etc. There was also a message for any future child from the donor. In our experience we found the depth of information provided in the profile really reassuring. Before we started the DE process we were give a sample profile so we knew what to expect. Perhaps you could ask any potential clinics to send you one through?
