I am preparing for my second FET and this time I've been moved from Crinone gel to Cyclogest pessaries. I got my protocol today, and I was so overwhelmed by everything that I forgot to ask a few things to the nurse. Hope that someone can help!
I will do the pessaries (also) in the middle of my working day. What do you do after inserting them? Do you sit/lie still? For how long? Or do you move as suggested with the Crinone?
How do you insert them? Just push up with your finger, as far as you can reach? (Sorry TMI 😳)
The nurse mentioned that I may need to double the doses after a BFP (If and only if I could go that far), can I insert two pessaries at the same time?
Any other tip?
Many thanks, this forum is a lifesaver 🤗🤗🤗

I actually feel that the cyclogest pessaries are better than the crinone gel. You still get leakage unfortunately....you can also use them in the back jow and then if you have irritation and this is much less messy but . Just push them up as far as they go really.🙈😂 I only do mine twice a day and usually try to stay still for a bit....think my clinic said around 20mins for absorption.xx
Yes I think front is the preference. I only moved the morning of embryo transfer and when I felt a little irritated. Oh and use panty liners!!
I'm doing ok thanks! Happy with my positive!🥰 Getting my hCG levels done Thursday so hopefully things are rising nicely and can get a date for a scan booked!🤞🏻xx
You don’t need to sit or lie down after taking pessaries. Just ensure you wear a pantyliner as quite a bit will “leak out” throughout the course of a day. No stress about that, the active ingredient will have absorbed in 20-30 minutes.
I’m abroad so not sure how you’ll get the pessaries packages, but mine come with an “applicator”. I don’t bring it to the office though, there I just insert with finger and that’s fine. Indeed push far up. No problem with two, they’re small enough they snuggle side by side or one below the other. I take two three times a day and on my second FET (and had a successful fresh cycle too) so almost an expert by now. Good luck!
Thanks, Gueritarubia! It seems that there is no applicator, so I will just use the natural device I have been equipped with (aka my finger 😂). Ok, then I will just push them up and sit normally for a while, I will be at my desk anyway! Thanks for the tip on the pantyliner! Good luck with your FET! What stage are you in?
Your natural devices are capable of a lot, plus you can’t forget them either
Honestly, no need to sit. Just do whatever, the pessaries will be fine! Pantyliners are an absolute must. Probably need a few a day. Weirdly some days there’s more mess than others. Guess it depends on your own discharge.
Just had my transfer yesterday, cross your fingers! Good luck you too
Hi! I did used cyclogest on my last ivf cycle. I insert them through my back pasage, aparently they are better absorbed . That is you feel confortable with them. I would say if you need double the dose one at the time😬This way is no mess as well. There is no need to move for minutes like for Crinone gel. Good luck! xxx
Hey can understand this can all be overwhelming esp with new drugs. U def come to the right place though as so many of us had lots of experience with all the diff kinds☺️
Re pessaries and inserting just insert as far as you can go like a tampon really. You can put in front or back passage and tbh even though sounds more grim the back once get used to it I found less messy than front and can just continue what ever almost straight after. With the front they have suggested lying down for abit I hear just to reduce the waxy mess that can come with it but suggest putting a panty liner on to help this.
Unsure about doubling the dose. When I had them I had to take 1 twice a day and always same time and 12hours apart. I did 7am and 7 pm.
I suggest check with nurse again with any uncertainty’s. Honestly though I found them fine. U get used to them quick.
Thanks, Dreamingofbaby! My clinic said that front passage is to be preferred and to use the back one only in case of bleeding 🙈Well, we will see! I will just push them up and sit normally for a while, just in case it reduces the mess, but I would definitely use also a pantyliner
I start my cyclogest tomorrow and have to do them back passage 😳😳 it said to go in at least an inch then you buttocks muscle will secure it in place if you just tense your bum after you have inserted and avoid going to the toilet for at least an hour I hope this helps and good luck I too am apprehensive about them but hey we have come this far and hopefully the pessaries will help with our positive outcomes xxx
Thanks, Noah! My clinic said that front passage is to be preferred and to use the back one only in case of bleeding 🙈Well, we will see! Good luck with your transfer 🤞🤞🤞
It's easier than you think doing back. I find that you literally just need to place it in back and when you stand your muscles pull it up inside....sorry if tmi!😂🙈xx
Ah I used these, always front passage. It is easier at night because you can lie down all night and nothing spills out. The morning one is more difficult as how long do you really have to sit about before work. I sat for 5 minutes max.
I didn’t have an applicator either and just pushed it up as far as it could go. I second the wear pantyliners recommendation, and decent ones, not the barely noticeable ones as I quickly lost some underwear with a spillage that doesn’t come out in the wash! Good luck 😊 x
Hey, know your clinic has said the front passage is preferred but I did mine via the back passage throughout, one in the morning and one at night. I just carried on with my day to day stuff straight after, no lying down etc. Seemed to work ok - I’m 38w+6 🥰
Thanks and congratulations 🥰 I will think about the back passage and discuss with the doctor the day of the ET. Perhaps I get the green light for trying
My clinic did say that you need to use the back passage up till day of transfer at least because they need the uterus to be clear... the pessaries can leave a waxy residue. Good luck!! Xx
My clinic said of not doing the pessary before the ET, and that the doctor will clean the residues before ET, and then I will do it afterwards. Well, who knows? Every clinic seems to have their own guidelines... 🤷
Hiya. I used lay down for 20 mins after inserting the pesseries in an effort to make sure they all absorb. 8n my 1st three cycles I used pesseries all of which ended in negative. Ask you clinic for a blood test to check your progestrone levels. In my last round I switched to lubion and Lentogest injections which worked better for me. Unfortunately it resulted in chemical pregnany but injections worked better than the pesseries
I was told you would need to sit down for a while if you inserted them front ways. But they recommended the back passage as there had been a study done recently to suggest they work better that way, plus you don’t get the leakage. Xx
I’m not entirely sure as I never done them up the front, but my clinic advised I would need to sit/lay for 30 mins if I chose to. Obviously go with what your clinic is saying but like a lot of ladies say the back passage absorbs better/quicker and it’s less messy. Good luck xx
Hey it sounds tricky. I’m not quite at that stage yet but will be soon as I will be having egg collection at the end of this week then my clinic have said to freeze the embryos for a month to let my body recover then transfer from frozen. How long do you have to do the pressaries for prior to transfer if you don’t mind me asking? Good luck with it all 🤞❤️Xxx
I also had a freeze-all for both my cycle, with two subsequent FET of 5d embryos. Both cases I had to do the progesterone for 5 days, the 5th being the one of the ET. Good luck with your transfer 🤞🤞🤞
I was told that the cyclogest were pretty much absorbed right away so don’t worry too much about leakage and lying down afterwards.
I also ended up using the back passage due to irritation of my cervix.. no messy discharge to worry about that way. Takes a bit of getting used to but I found it a whole lot easier x
I looked into this and the consensus was you can do front or back, but there is less leakage with the back, and I’d agree with this so far. My clinic said either is fine. I don’t lie down, the only thing I’d want to time right is not going for a poo shortly after putting it in.
Try and put them up as far as you’d put a tampax, I would use a glove but my clinic didn’t say this was necessary....
If you have two to put in, I put mine in morning and evening, and suspect your clinic would suggest that.
Many thanks. My clinic said that front passage is to be preferred and to use the back one only in case of bleeding 🙈, it seems that every clinic has its own guideline... 🤷
Ok, I will push it as far up as I can 🙈 and hope for the best.
I’ve always used the front but it’s so messy. Switched to the back for this cycle and it’s so much better. Save money on pantyliners and no mess! The box I have from the clinic says use front or back but the leaflet inside says use front for fertility treatment. I don’t know why there is confusion and the advice differs, it’s weird? Heard of many successful pregnancies using the back so I’m happy to stick to that. Good luck x
Many thanks. My clinic said that front passage is to be preferred and to use the back one only in case of bleeding 🙈, it seems that every clinic has its own guideline... 🤷
Well, I will do everything for success, so finger crossed!
Obsessing over blue veins in boobs. My wife says they’re suddenly noticeable but are they? I’m weeing constantly but is that the prednisolone? Otherwise apart from still getting a few drops of blood every now and then and a few mild cramps no other symptoms. OTD is Saturday and it’s a long way away!
I was on the pessaries twice daily. My clinic said to lie down for twenty minutes after inserting. I echo everyone else’s comments about a pantyliner although I don’t think they’re that messy tbh. xx
Hey im using cyclogest at the moment I'm doin the front and back.im just worried there not goin up far enough in the front.they say about a inch up the back passage so is it roughly yhe same in the front?
