Progesterone??

Hi, I wondered if anyone’s got any views on progesterone injection over pessaries? Today our clinic have said they are starting to trial Lubion injection for patients over 38 years (i’m 40). Were paying privately and the injection is much more expensive but we’d pay if it’s going to help. I have done some reading and previous trials didn’t find a benefit. But only through reading today I’ve realised that it helps implantation which is where we fail. Previously I thought progesterone was only to prevent miscarriage. Also like to add, have some of you had injections and pessaries? Some older posts I’ve read, some seem to be on both. Wonder if this is an option? Thanks. 🤗 x

I’d be interested in your replies as for my first 2 FETs we had progesterone pessaries and BFNS, the doctor has advised adding in Lubion injections for our 3rd round as well as the pessaries as we had spotting both rounds. She said there’s no real evidence it will help but “there must be a reason someone put it in a needle “xx

That’s good to hear. I’ve read the absorption is better and I think that’s the main benefit. Not sure why they are now suggesting it for over 38’s. I can’t find anything online about that. I think we will go for it. We’d try anything. But would love to hear others thoughts. Xx

Hi gemmy999 I'm on Lubion (2 injections a day). My clinic started by prescribing pessaries and pills then did 2 rounds of blood tests and each time decided my progesterone serum levels where not high enough (they are "obsessed" with progesterone as they say themselves), so they also put me on suppositories and Lubion. It happened past what my implantation date would have been though. I had no idea there was no evidence it would help, but my clinic did say that progesterone helps with implantations in addition to preventing miscarriages. Since I've been on Lubion, my progesterone levels skyrocketed so I can confirm that absorption is much better.

Thank you. That’s really helpful. I might ask to go on both then. X

Hi Gemmy, nice to see you pop up again :)

I have been using both the pessaries and injection this cycle (400 Cyclogest 2x daily and Prontogest in bum every 3rd day). My consultant suggested it as I had had no success on my first DE cycle (both fresh & FET transfer) and my 2nd DE cycle (fresh transfer) so he felt I might have an implantation probem. No idea if it's this that has helped but I'm now at 9+1.

I think Prontogest is an Italian version of Gestone and not sure if it's comparable to Lubion. I need to continue with it and the pessaries up to my 13th week. After my 7 week viability scan I tried to buy it via Asda and was told it's impossible to get hold of, so I've reverted to buying it through the clinic via Stork. I think it's maybe £80 ish for c. 10 vials but haven't had the invoice through yet.

The injections are a bit painful and sting afterwards but nothing terrible.

Hi, thank you for tour reply. Congratulations to you. Did you have success via DE?

I think from what I’m reading I will ask for both injection and pessaries. Mine is an implantation problem. And if it can help then it’s worth giving it a go. Xx

Yes it was FET from our second round.

I found this article yesterday (although it concerns miscarriage prevention, rather than implantation failure; tommys.org/our-organisation...

I’ve had both Lubion injections and the pessaries this time around ... we end our tww wait tomorrow. I think the Lubion was to sustain any possible pregnancy as I’ve miscarried twice after ivf.

My consultant has recommended prontogest injections every 3rd day in addition to pessaries for this cycle. He advised it can help with implantation. I did some googling on the benefits and found this short summary of the study my doctor was referring to

This is interesting to hear and consider. For whatever reason I have never been advised to continue pessaries after 2ww but have now miscarried twice. Am hoping next try they will advise to continue so good to see the options. Am sure my mc are related.

Best wishes with yours. X

I’m sorry to hear about your MC 😢 it was in the news recently about the importance of progesterone and miscarriage prevention so I hope your clinic changes their policy. Tc xx
