Low progesterone - help?! And embryo 8 onboard!

Scarlett13 profile image
85 Replies

Hi all you lovely people

Embryo number 8 is now on board, this one is called Omelette!

Had my progesterone levels checked for the first time ever and it was only 5.9! The clinic like it to be over 30...so I’ve been switched from lubion tummy injections to prontogest bum injections- I asked if I’ll get retested but they say no they don’t do that as I’m now on the best way of getting the progesterone- but I’m quite annoyed! What if my levels are still too low? Surely I would then need to have extra progesterone in the form of lubion or pessaries? Although it’s not standard practice, I’ve asked the nurse to discuss it with the doctors and get back to me. Could a lack of progesterone be the reason why I’ve had 6 implantation failures and an early miscarriage?!

Any advice?! Similar stories? X

Mine was 17 and Dr increased me to 1600 mg utrogestan pessaries/day. Keep pushing for them to test it again, it's a simple enough thing to do and at least you'll know what's going on with that. I really hope your little omelette sticks and settles in xxx

Scarlett13 profile image
Scarlett13 in reply toMissSaoPaulo

That’s what I’m thinking - why would they not bother to retest if they suggested that I get tested this time? I’m more than happy to pay for the test and up my progesterone if I need to so I’m going to push on this one, thank you xxx

MissSaoPaulo profile image
MissSaoPaulo in reply toScarlett13

I would think with your history they would want to see whether progesterone level was a factor. Hope you can get some answers hon, and again, good luck with this little one xxx

Hi Scarlett, wishing you so much luck for this embryo, you really deserve it🤞🤞 I’d definitely get it checked privately or maybe your GP could. The clinic I was originally with wanted levels of 30 minimum too xxx

Scarlett13 profile image
Scarlett13 in reply towaitingg

Thank you. I’m going to try and get an emergency appointment with my GP on Monday if possible if my clinic won’t help - the clinic said I would need to wait until Monday to give the prontogest enough time to start working x

How are you doing?

waitingg profile image
waitingg in reply toScarlett13

That sounds like a good idea. Sounds good to push your clinic too as it’s only one blood test and if you are happy to pay then it’s good for everyone to know what your results are. Information is power as our urologist said once! And for your piece of mind during what is already a stressful time.

I’m doing well thank you.

Lots of luck for getting the test organised and for as relaxing as possible weekend for you. You really are so strong xxx

Thank you for your kind words, and you’re right, it’s only a blood test! So hopefully they’ll sort that for me xx

Hi waiting, this is interesting as I've never had mine tested and on 8th go. Please did it help you achieve a positive outcome when you got your increased to 30?

kind regards

Barbara

Hi Barbara, I had a few natural FETs last year and they did a couple of trials before the actual transfers to check I had ovulated and that my progesterone was where they wanted it. They said they wanted it over 30 and I was lucky it was naturally. I didn’t get any bfp from those rounds though. I ended up moving clinics and they actually wanted it over 80 when I had a fresh round with them and 2x400 cyclogest got me to above that level. Our issues didn’t seem progesterone related though and were more male factor and then I had high nk cells discovered so have had IVIg for my successful round (although still very early days). Might be worth having a chat with your clinic for piece of mind? Lots of luck xxx

Thanks squeak! How are you? X

My progesterone was slightly low although I was on cyclogest so I requested to take an extra one per day to increase it if it wouldn’t cause harm to the baby and they ended up agreeing even though the dr didn’t think it would make a difference and I now have a beautiful 7 week old xx

Make them give u that test you will kick yourself it you don’t as at least that may give u an answer one way or another and if is low they can hopefully up the dosage for u. I had to convince them that not taking the extra was mentally worse for me basically like if there’s no harm fromdoing so to the baby or I why not let us take a little more if puts mind a rest which means less stress and possibly a positive outcome xa

Low levels of progesterone are linked to miscarriage and given what you have been through they should re test you. You can also get the test done privately (I did this as my clinic were also difficult about testing for it) I did it through medichecks and did the testing at home. You get the results fairly quickly via email. I am sure the extra injections etc will help and I'm wishing you and omelette all the very best 🤞 xx

Scarlett13 profile image
Scarlett13 in reply toHollieW

Thank you Hollie and thanks for the tip about medichecks, will look into that xxx

HollieW profile image
HollieW in reply toScarlett13

Definitely worth it. After my first failed transfer I wanted it checked and I'm glad I did as ot was low and they increased my progesterone second time and it worked. Maybe complete coincidence but at least you know you have done everything you can xx

Scarlett13 profile image
Scarlett13 in reply toHollieW

What progesterone support were you on and what did you move to? The medichecks test is £69 and my clinic charge £35 so I think I’ll be off to the clinic again x

So pleased the progesterone tweak worked for you!

HollieW profile image
HollieW in reply toScarlett13

Definitely go through your clinic then if it's cheaper! They doubled the pessaries from 2 a day to 4 a day xx

Hey! I would definitely push for retest. I've just had a BFP yesterday but told my progesterone low so clinic have increased Utrogestan pesssaries from 800mg to 1600mg per day and I've to get it retested next week to make sure levels are rising. I feel your anxiousness as I've had previous implantation failures and a miscarriage.

Good luck and sending you positive vibes. 😊

Thank you - so glad your clinic are on the ball with the testing for you! I’m def going to push for another test x

Solly-44 profile image
Solly-44

I would also be annoyed and push for it to be retested. It’s such a simple (and presumably cheap) test that why would they not want to check?

But mainly I wanted to say good luck to you and little omelette! Really hope this is your time 🥰 xx

Scarlett13 profile image
Scarlett13 in reply toSolly-44

A simple test I’m prepared to pay the £35 for so yes I’ll be pushing!! Thank you for your good luck wishes xxx

Love and luck to you and omelette! 💗 How frustrating with your clinic and the testing! I’ve never heard of the bum injections but I’m also wondering how much progesterone is in them? I’ve never been tested for progesterone, which now seems weird. due to more unexplained bleeding on my FET I was on 2x lubion & 2pessaries a day, sadly resulted in my 3rd bfn.

I hope you get some answers ASAP and I’m wishing you all the very best 🙏 💖 🤞 🤗 xxx

Scarlett13 profile image
Scarlett13 in reply toAS100

I was only on one lubion a day so at least it sounds like you had a lot of progesterone support! Sorry you’ve had 3 heart breaking BFNs- is def ask for testing for your next go xxx

AS100 profile image
AS100 in reply toScarlett13

Sorry if i sounded a bit sad about it all, I’m just thinking aloud and It’s so weird / confusing how the clinics seem to do different things 😖 my progesterone has been built up over my bfns, starting from 2 pessaries, then adding lubion, then doubling it all 🤷‍♀️ it’s just so odd that they don’t test! Keep us updated, I hope the doctors get back to you with some facts! Big hug 🤗 xxx

Scarlett13 profile image
Scarlett13 in reply toAS100

I’m very sad about it all so no need to apologise!!! Can’t believe it’s taken 7 failed embryos to be tested! I’ve never had my progesterone increased so I’m glad you have but testing is so simple, I think everyone should be tested as standard practice?! X

Hi...

I would definitely push for retest. I've had a BFP after a FET on the 28/05 and my progesterone was also low (only 9) so clinic told me to keep on doing Utrogestan 200mg 3 pessaries per day but they added Utrogestan 200mg oral 1 per day and Lubion 25mg 1 per day.

I've had it retested the following week and it was 50.

I understand your anxiousness as I've had a previous miscarriage and 3 ectopic.

Good luck and sending you positive vibes.

xx

Scarlett13 profile image
Scarlett13 in reply to

Wow you’ve been through some tough times! So how’s your current pregnancy?! Congrats! So glad you got your progesterone tested and upped, perhaps this has been the reason you’ve miscarried before if you didn’t have it tested and upped? I’ve got a retest Monday x

in reply toScarlett13

Hi... When I miscarried in mars my progesterone level was also low but clinic only told me to increase Utrogestan from 3 to 4 times per day. It went from 9 to 20.

This time they also add the Lubion. It went from 9 to 50 and they were happy with this number.

Yesterday we did our viability scan... we saw 2 tiny heartbeats :) But still having some spotting :( It seems this journey will never be easy!

Best of luck! Hope you're progesterone level has increased!

Hi Scarlett, first of all the best and I’m keeping everything crossed for a positive result. Re: progesteron, my clinic wanted to over 100 👀 I know it’s a crazy number, so I was on Lentogest(similar to Prontogest), Utrogestan and Crinone. Are you on tablets and pessaries apart from Prontogest? X

Scarlett13 profile image
Scarlett13 in reply toKari55

No just on prontogest at moment but having retest on Monday so will demand to be upped if it’s not high enough xxx that’s great your clinic were so keen on a high number!!x

Kari55 profile image
Kari55 in reply toScarlett13

Yes, definitely ask for a retest and a higher dose if needed. My clinic seemed to think that high progesteron level is very important. Best of luck x

Hi

They tested my progesterone on day of transfer and phoned me next day to say it was too low. Took Lubion straight away but was BFN at the end. I just was wondering if testing on day of transfer and result coming back the next day, wouldn’t this be too late anyway to help implanting 🤔?

Scarlett13 profile image
Scarlett13 in reply toChrisChros

You may be right? I’m not retesting until Monday now but they did sound confident that I should be fine on prontogest - but if it’s low on Monday and I have had implantation, hopefully the progesterone increase will help the pregnancy to continue x

Hey scarlett, have you have any luck with pestering your clinic? The more I think about it, I cant see why they wouldn't recheck it! Seems crazy especially if you are willing to pay for it! My NHS clinic blatantly just told me it wasnt possible to have low progesterone which I knew was wrong. I haven't had mine tested since but my private clinic gave me a way higher dose to take and I haven't had any early bleeding like I did on the NHS. However it still didnt help with implantation although our consultant did decide to start me on progesterone earlier on my last BFP in case I had a slightly less common receptivity phase which we have done again this time so was on progesterone for 6 full days before transfer. Hope you get them to listen to you & of course wishing you all the luck in the world!!xxx

Scarlett13 profile image
Scarlett13 in reply toCinderella5

Thanks Cinders! My AF has always started before my OTD, especially when on pessaries. I’ve got a retest booked for Monday afternoon x

Your current clinic sound hot on progesterone thank goodness!!! How you doing?! I’m having crazy waves of cramps today x

Cinderella5 profile image
Cinderella5 in reply toScarlett13

Well in would say that is a sure fire sign of low progesterone. We were so pissed off at our NHS clinic, they do private and not a chance were we going there after that! Our Athens clinic even said if I felt remotely period like to just up my dose which is reassuring too. Hoping your injections do the trick, at least you'll get checked Monday then!👍🏻

I'm ok, not sure if any of the little twinges I had have been real....cant decide if it's in my head or I'm hoping for something that isnt there!🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤣🙈 That's good if you're getting symptoms!!🤞🏻xxx
