So, everything has gone well so far this cycle... Doing a FET and the transfer is booked for Friday. I've had a cold for over a week that's been getting worse each day and the last couple of days has become a snot fest that has now gone to my ears, headaches and face ache from the sinus pain. Even my teeth are hurting. I've had a bit of a temp and felt generally knackered and run down (pathetic I know) and I think mixed with the IVF meds I'm just not 100% ATM.
I'm currently taking the progynova pills and the cyclogest pessaries to potentially support a pregnancy and stopped by buserelin jabs on Sunday. Also taking my usual vitamins, folic acid, eating healthily, keeping fluids up etc.
I spoke to my clinic today about whether I can take decongestants, paracetamol or ibruprofen to try and get on top of the cold as I'm concerned it might affect my chances. Please can any of you help with your experiences...
1) Does having a bad cold or being a bit run down and potentially having a weaker immune system affect your chances of transfer?
I'm thinking don't be silly etc... But then we go to such lengths to get the best chance with diet, excersize and meds... Surely this is going to affect things?
2) Does taking decongestants, paracetamol or ibruprofen affect a transfer?
I've started taking them but want to know when to stop if needed so they're out my system if they need to be . My transfer is friday at midday.
The clinic said I could postpone if needed but that that would be my decision and I said I'd let them know either way tomorrow.
I don't know what to do! Xxx

I had a stinking cold and nasty chesty cough when I did my FET and got my daughter. I remember at the time I really worried the coughing (it was constant and very bad) would affect the embryos sticking and my temperature but she was all fine.
My clinic told me not to take anything you can't take in pregnancy so decongestants were a no no. Pretty much just paracetamol which I found, for me, never worked. Had to suffer through it and was so ghastly but if you rest as much you can shouldn't affect your FET. My clinic told me I'd have to be very sick to cancel an FET? Did you ask your clinic if this would affect it? Best of luck! Xxxx
Thank you so much for this @kittyk it's made me feel heaps better. I will take one more decongestant tonight and then stop them. How are you feeling? Are you still in your 2ww? Best of luck lovely xx
You're welcome! My clinic basically said they understood why I worried but my body is built to take all the hits and not let it touch my uterus and just to take care of myself and not let myself get run down? Didn't stop me worrying though. I remember so clearly, my hubby brought the cold home and I had a massive row because I told him to sleep on the sofa to try and not give me the cough and he didn't, and I got the cough lol wasn't funny at the time but looking back....
Yeah don't suffer needlessly, as long as it's out of your system for the bean to go in
Let us know how it goes!
Yes the dreaded 2ww test day tuesday! I have had some nasty UTI style cramps which is what I've had before though so I hope that is a good sign (painful as it is) xxx
Fingers crossed for you lovely, I'll be thinking of you on Tues. Is it a home test or do you have to go to your clinic?
Feeling a bit better today, although I decided not to take another decongestant last night, to be on the safe side! Unless I get worse I'm hoping to go ahead with FET tomorrow! Thanks again for your advice XX
I think 1) is No, and 2) is try to take only paracetamol (think of it like a pregnancy in that you’d only take paracetamol then). Being a medical establishment I’d expect them to be able to answer that one! Good luck and hope you feel better soon xx
Thanks lovely XX they said I could take the decongestant if I felt I needed it but that made me feel like it was on my shoulders! I'm pathetic today, can't make a bloody decision! 😂 How are you doing? Xx
The cycle drugs/treatment on top of the cold takes its toll so don’t be too hard on yourself. I am good, thriving with our baby son (although exhausted 🤪) xx
