Quick question about scans/bloods before donor IVF treatment abroad...

Hi all!

Just a quickie - trying to work out finances and get an idea of any extra costs before proceeding/researching further into clinics in Spain, Greece, Cyprus...

Does treatment with all clinics abroad require a private scan and blood test in the UK at the start of treatment (with the UK clinic sending the results over as needed) or do some foreign clinics have you go over to the clinic itself for initial scans and bloods there (or does it just depend on the clinic)?

Just trying to get an idea of logistics, and wondered which was the norm...

Thanks so much ladies 😘 xx

Hi Claire

I think most would be the same, unless you can be abroad for a while. You will have a scan right at the beginning of down reg just to make sure there are no surprises from before, another scan following that to ensure you have a triple layer lining which is at least 8mm. This is usually around a couple of days to a week before you fly out. Some clinics also do bloods to check your progesterone levels are high enough.

That's it. So you will want a local clinic for this unless you plan to be abroad for a month.

Following transfer, usually for me anyway, about 10-12 days after transfer you may be asked to have an hcg blood test on your otd. You will want same day results so again local clinic. You can do this via post but not likely then to get the results of course until the next day xx

No worries. Hope it all goes well for you x

Morning,I have my treatment in the Czech Republic and I live in the Midlands so go to a private place just outside Birm for bloods and scans, I have to go for a scan usually around day 20 of my cycle and they email my clinic with the results,I go to them for a HCG blood test too on test day and have decided to go there this time round for an intralipid injection before my transfer on 1st March. Scans cost £80 and HCG £55 if you want the results on the same day.

Good luck xx

Thank you, Clairenix! That’s really helpful. There are couple of local clinics I’ll contact about scans/tests here. Thanks very much for the info :-) X

I had to have screening bloods done for treatment abroad...but my GP was pretty helpful and did them for me. I had scans done in the UK, used ultrasound direct/baby bond for £79....then I found out my NHS clinic did private scans for endometrial thickness for £50. Drugs were around £150 but bear in mind mine was DE. PM me if you think I can help more.xx

Thanks Cinderella5! I’ll be doing DE too so that’s good to know re drugs.. your GP sounds really helpful! Might make an appointment with mine to double check about the bloods. Good to know what to expect for scan price too, I was thinking it’d be £200-300. Get used to everything being so pricey, anything remotely under £100 seems like a total bargain 🙈 I might DM you down the line if that’s ok as there’s a couple of clinics in Greece and Spain and maybe Cyprus we’re considering (thanks to recommendations from this site). There’s so much choice, I’m interested in any guarantees that might be offered or package-type deals and suchlike. Anything that makes it worth going abroad over staying here in Manchester. Minimal waiting times is a big plus and hopefully a greater no. of young, healthy eggs. Thanks again so much for your help xx
