Shielding during treatment

Hi all,

Hope everyone is doing well. Great to see so many clinics back open and treatment starting up. Sadly our clinic is still not on the list šŸ™

Just trying to mentally prepare myself for changes when hopefully we do get up and running and wondered what most clinics are doing. Are people being asked to shield/self isolate during some or all of treatment? Iā€™m just thinking this would make it quite tricky as Iā€™m a teacher. Thanks in advance xx

Hi Core, my clinic hasnā€™t asked to self isolate the whole time, but said they expect it between the 2nd COVID test they do at the scan appointment before egg collection and the egg collection itself - I think to minimise risk of getting COVID at this point. We are planning to largely self isolate except for walking our dogs, since if we test positive once treatment starts, the cycle gets cancelled, which is more time and cost expense. Xx

Makes perfect sense good luck with your treatment xx

Hi lovely,

Sorry you havenā€™t heard anything yet, keep the faith, it will happen. I know you know about my clinic but posting the info to help others too. Ours are asking us to self isolate from day 12 scan till day after transfer. So about a week/week an a half. Just to minimise any infection spreading. The rules could change at any point though right?!

Much love xx

Sorry to hear about your clinic. Hoping that changes and they open soon! I donā€™t know anything about shielding requirements either Iā€™m afraid. But am following the thread as Iā€™m keen to know for future treatment as I hadnā€™t even thought about how I might need to factor in extra time off work for that! Best of luck for when you are able to get going lovely xxx

Hi Iā€™m a nursery nurse in a school. Iā€™ve had a code of conduct Iā€™ve had to fill in before I can go forward with my FET which states I must do all I can to not to get covid. They have said I am able to go to work still though Iā€™m very worried about it! I usually take the 2ww off so Iā€™ve asked my work whether I can shield then as I am classed as pregnant until proven otherwise or will I need a sick note x Iā€™m waiting on a answer x

Thanks for replying, thatā€™s really interesting good they let you work but I can imagine itā€™s a very anxious time I work with the littlies also and as we all know they are great at spreading bugs although looks like they are still investigating whether they spread this one. Best of luck with your FET xx

Good question! I have thought about this. My clinic require shielding two weeks before egg transfer. I think there should be some means of obtaining a sick note for this period - or support to work from home? Are colleagues who shield expected to use annual leave or unpaid leave? I'd be tempted to use some annual leave to shield longer before the baseline scan because if you have symptoms at anytime the cycle is cancelled. I'm keen to hear how u all get on. Saving up my leave unt I know more. Hope to get going again in July/August. It's tough going, šŸ˜ž the things we do eh. x

Yes I was thinking if they insist I imagine theyā€™d provide a sick note? Looks like as with many things lots of clinics are doing it slightly differently so interesting to hear what everyone says xx

At a consultation at private clinic re starting a FET I was told I would need to self isolate as they would be testing for Covid19 and if I tested positive, the treatment would be cancelled and Iā€™d have to wait and try again

Hi Core, the nurse said today that it is not mandatory to shield through treatment, but to use common sense and be as safe as possible. Also to notify them of any symptoms if you develop any. Face mask to be worn in clinic etc etc xx

Hi hun, know we've spoken about this but commenting here too in case it helps others. I have been asked to shield and work from home for duration of treatment. Have to wear masks at clinic and hubby not allowed in and complete questionnaire everytime I go to clinic (about 15-20 qs). No temp checks or tests or anything. Xx
