Hi all,

11 weeks pregnant tomorrow and found out that I have the above blood type which can be an issue. Was just wondering if anyone else has any experience of this? Feeling down- feel like my body’s doing everything it can to make pregnancy difficult xx

Hey, I’m rhesus negative too (it’s part of your blood group). It’s only an issue if your baby’s father is rhesus positive. Then you get injections later in the pregnancy to prevent any potential problems with future babies. If you know that your partner is rhesus negative, the hospital may still want you to have it but if you are absolutely certain that the father is rhesus negative you could talk to them about whether you have to have them.

It won’t affect the pregnancy negatively in any other way. Try not to let it get you down. It does not mean that your body does not want you to have a successful pregnancy xxx

A wee add on to your first fab reply. To be negative blood group you are dd, if you are positive blood your are either DD or Dd so even if your partner is positive blood he may be Dd and the d could be the one that passes over hence no probs. In a first pregnancy it really shouldn’t pose a problem unless you have a small bleed inside which is very rare and the bloods mix which will cause Anti D. Normally someone with negative blood is given a jab in the leg after birth and no worries.

Relax at this stage it is of no worries fir you xxx

Please try not to worry. Like the others have said, it’s not really relevant unless baby is rhesus positive & even then it’s not a problem if it’s been picked up on screening (which it has).

I’m rhesus negative and following a blood test they found my baby was positive so I just had to have an injection of ‘anti-d’ medication at 28 weeks. No other issues at all. My little boy is now 8 weeks old.

I do know how worrying everything can be though. Keep going, you’re doing fine x

Hi,

I’m the same blood type too and I’m nearly 38 weeks pregnant! I had to have an injection at 28weeks and then will need a second one once baby is born. I’ve been told I can wait till they check the baby’s blood type and then have the injection but I will just have it straight after the birth.

It hasn’t effected my pregnancy at all x

I’m the same as the others. My hubby is positive and so is my son. During the first pregnancy I had an injection part way through and then another one just after my son was born. I asked midwife about it during my booking in appointment for my current pregnancy and she said that nowadays they take a blood test later on during pregnancy and they can tell if baby is positive or negative. Only if baby is positive could it be a possible problem and even then it’s unlikely - only if you get a bump or something which causes baby to bleed and your blood gets mixed with baby’s blood. But they give the injection as a precaution. It really isn’t anything to worry about.

Hi Rachwithers, I am also Rh- and I can guarantee that there is no issue.

If the father of the child is Rh+ (or something always, just to be on the safe side), close to delivery, you will get a shot to prevent problems during the next pregnancies, and the injection does not have any side effects (I got two after my two ectopic pregnancies).

Hi I know this post is old but I've just had my midwife appointment and been told I have antibodies in my blood which require further investigation. Is this what happened to you when you were told you were rhesus negative? Thanks
