Best time to test AMH?

Hi All

Is there an optimal/preferable time in the month to have the blood test for AMH? I understand that AMH is secreted from the follicles and so assumed that ovulation would be best time, but my doctor was pretty relaxed when I have the test.

Thanks a lot! Xx

Hiya lr56 ive had my amh bloods done now around 4 times ...... been 28 at the time i was heatbroken when my results came back at 5.39 this is very low for my age so they did this again this time they didnt do it wile i was on a cycle and it went up to 10.99 still low but miles better they couldn’t understand it because amh is supposed to decrease with age now ive had it randomly done again age 29 and my amh stands at 17.99 .... the nurses at my clinic were pretty confident that you can test amh at anytime and were pretty amazed at how my results shot up im glad i pushed for retesting also .... hope you are well ❤️ xx

Very interesting to hear that yours has changed. I don’t think I’ve ever had mine tested before. Thank you for the advice xx

Hi LR56 apparently you are supposed to be able to test AMH any time of the day and at any point in your cycle. According to NICE your AMH is not supposed to change on a month to month basis. But as with Rachel_, I've had varying results with my AMH and had the following readings, Dec 2016: 3.0, Feb 2017: 2.3, Sept 2017: 7.5 and Dec 2017 6.2. Also apparently AMH IS not supposed to increase, but mine has and ive read other women's have xx

Thanks for getting back to me. Just had mine done and will find out on Monday. I will ask about fluctuations (particularly increases)! Thanks again xx

Hi LR56, from my understanding AMH can be tested at anytime of your cycle x

AMH needs to be tested when on your period between days 2-5 for the most accurate result. same with FSH and to check your follicles on a scan xx

Interesting that you’ve been told differently. I understand why FSH should be monitored then - do you know why AMH should be monitored then too?

Thanks! Xx

My clinic paid for my initial tests and said they absolutely must be done during days 2-5 of my cycle for the most accurate result where they are least likely to fluctuate which may be why you are getting different readings each time? your hormones are much different when on your period. Also the scan with the follicle count is at its peak too so very good for detecting what you have available. xxx

Do you know if it would be a higher or lower reading outside of those days? X
