Is it possible to change AMH?!

So I had a phone app with the fertility doc and she said my amh on my last blood test was the same as last year. Last week they told me it had gone down (over 30% drop). Is it possible or can the amh be influenced by irregular periods? On my last blood test in Jan my cycle was crazy and since that period I was having period every 2w.

If your periods have become closer together or irregular could it be that you have entered the perimenapause?

I'm not sure... How do you know if you are?

Hi,I had this when I was tested at an NHS clinic and then private. Although mine went from 3 to 9 after 1.5 years. I don’t know too much about it but have also heard it can differ cycle to cycle and how long the sample is sitting before it is tested. Can you confirm with your clinic? All these results cause such worry don’t they xx

Wow that's quite a difference! Yeah, even trying not to worry about it...it is hard not to. Good luck on your journey

I heard that in people with low ovarian reserve/older woman (like myself) it can go up and down. I think mine was originally 6.9 when tested then the consultant mentioned 8.3 at one stage too. I don't know if this is applicable to all women or just Oldies like me as I was trying to find out about my own circumstances but I would get another test done when things have settled down. Also, even if it has gone down that doesn't necessarily mean you won't get good quality eggs and get pregnant. At the end of the day, you only need one good egg that implantation, don't you?

Hi happyseal. I was tested at an nhs clinic last January and had an amh of 5.5. I have since moved clinics and a year on my amh is 13.9 🤷‍♀️. My clinic said it is rare but it can go up. I've just had my egg collection and got 15 and 13 of them have gone on to fertilise. I think amh helps the clinic decide the strength of drugs you need to go on but I have heard of many success stories with low amh.

Keeping everything crossed for you and as they say, it only takes one x x

Wow! That’s amazing! Did you do anything different in the time between your two AMH tests? That’s a great result with your egg colllection. Wishing you all the best with the next steps 😀x

Thank you. Where are you in the process?

The only thing I did for my own mental wellbeing was start running. No idea if this has any impact at all but when i had my first failed cycle I decided I needed some time for myself and focused on running. I have eaten and drank the same as I usually do and until the last 6 weeks not taken any additional supplements other than folic acid x x

Thank you for your reply. It sounds like the running really helped, it’s a great stress reliever! I’m just getting prepared to start our first round of IVF. I’ve had two AMH tests a few months apart, first one with NHS -2.18 and then one with the private clinic -4.8. I’m hoping with some lifestyle changes we’ll improve our chances 🤞xx

Good luck with your 1st cycle. Do you know what meds you are being put on? Try not to worry about your amh. I really let it bother me and my first round I got 11 eggs. I think it all depends how you respond to the drugs x

Good luck...I'm doing the same. Changing to a more fresh diet with a lot of veggies and fruits as well as some running.

We haven't started yet. They couldn't collect eggs so I had to have a laparoscopy. Now I'm waiting for a scan to see if they can collect the eggs. This whole process have taken over a year on NHS just to be told that we don't qualify for the funding because of low AMH and FSH. So we're now looking into clinics. Everything is a bit confusing at this point.

Cool... lower stress must've helped. I just started to running as well... It always makes me feel good and in the moment.
