Hoping reading about some other experiences might make me feel at ease!
Egg collection was on Monday, 13 eggs retrieved. Been taking the pessaries from the evening of egg collection as prescribed.
Since Monday I have felt badly bloated and not been able to wear my normal trousers. I've been drinking lots of water [I only ever drink water anyway] and going to the toilet a lot but when I got for a number 2 [sorry!] or have a bit of wind I find it really painful.
The embryologist called this morning to give us an update [5 emby's looking good and being watched!] but started off the convo asking how I was. She said I should be feeling better and symptoms not getting worse. If I'm struggling to bend over or not able to do up trousers, not going to the toilet as much I should call and go in for a blood test and a scan.
Of course now my mind is in overdrive as everything she said I'm feeling, now I'm worried I have OHSS. OH has been great and found some stuff online to say it shouldn't affect the treatment and you can still get pregnant etc. but I can't help but worry.
Just wondering what other symptoms were and if you felt the same, did it pass, should I be worried? Eek!
So close now! Looking like transfer will be Sat, 10% chance it could be Sun.
Wishing everyone else all the best xx

Might be a good idea to get some laxatives over the counter- you can use senna and lactulose together. If you feel sick or stay very bloated probably best to give your clinic a call, bearing in mind tomorrow is Friday maybe better to do it today- they may want to see you and better safe than sorry. Good luck xx
I had mild ohss and it was very uncomfortable and painful I looked pregnant and felt so full! I was advised that as long as I didn’t have any vomiting or diahorrea then just to drink loads of water and to try and cope with it, I did have swollen ovaries which was very uncomfortable.
I had to have my embryo’s frozen due to the ohss as I wasn’t well enough for the transfer, but yours might be to do with the progesterone as I’m taking now with my frozen natural cycle and I’m bloated ++ and have an upset stomach
I my stomach was so swollen I looked massaive they scanned me and I had fluid leaking out of my ovaries into other areas, I was so uncomfortable and in pain lo went on for weeks, it took a long time to settle down and I was tired.
Congratulations on your EC! 13 eggs retrieved would have left your ovaries fairly swollen I imagine. I had more than you and it felt like someone had punched me down there lol.
Bloating is common after and with the pessaries.
I agree with the others- take some laxatives and the constipation will ease which will ease the bloating too. If it doesn’t work then u may have mild OHsS.
Worth asking clinic for a blood test to make sure ur levels aren’t too high as you can opt for feeezinf your embryos instead. I decided to go ahead with mine but it may be best to wait if you’re ohss
HAHA I see- yes it does sound like ur just swollen and not constipated but it’s worth the meds if only just to ease the pain. Often everything gets swollen and I always have excessive bloating too- indigestion tabs or the like.
Another great one is magnesium spray/tablets which will help with both.
Hi my egg collection was the 6th april transfer 11th April with 16 eggs collected they said I have mild ohss..was told to drink plenty of water and rest I havnt been back to work since, I'm so bloated I've not been right since egg collection. My clinic didn't seem concerned about the bloating as Ive got swollen ovaries still but as long as I'm not breathless or vomiting.. I've tried fibogel but that hasn't really worked either..I don't think the pesseries help! Hope you feel better soon! xx
Maybe that's where I'm going wrong... I'm back at work! Haha. Ok that's good, I don't really have any other symptoms apart from the bloating so I'm prob still swollen as you say. Thanks Baileysmith !
I assume you're in your 2ww now? What date can you test? Fingers crossed for you! xx
Yes I am! It's driving me mad..They've told me Tuesday 24th but somebody on here had their egg collection and transfer same day as me and they are testing tomorrow! I don't really want to give in and test and upset myself though! Thank you xx
Ohh! That must be so tempting but defo do it on the date they've told you, everyone's path is different. I'll make sure I do a BFP dance for you Monday night everything crossed xx
Hi hun, sorry to hear you’re not feeling good. I had OHSS and felt awful. Was so bloated I looked 6 months pregnant. Couldn’t sit up, walk, lie down without being in a lot of pain. I was so swollen (ovaries were 10 times the size they should be). I vomited constantly and couldn’t keep anything down. Was really constipated too and had to measure the amount of fluid that was going in and out (sorry if TMI!). I had 24 eggs collected but the early signs of OHSS were there before and I almost didn’t make it to egg collection. I had to call the clinic every day and update them, but I did actually make it to egg transfer. (Despite throwing up in the consultants sink 2 minutes before they came to get me for the transfer!) It took me a long time to feel better. I think I had a fairly bad case of it. They said if I got pregnant the symptoms would get worse before they got better. Hopefully if u do have it you will only have a mild case and I’m sure you will make it to ET. 🤞🤞🤞 hope u feel better soon and get your BFP! Xx take care and rest up
Thank you for replying NsKaz. I'm just happy reading that they can still do the procedure or there is a second option if they can't. I started to panic a bit! Thanks for the BFP wishes! xx
Hi KJLee, I had exactly the same up until the day before my 5 day ET. I had really bad constipation and when I did go or pass wind I felt like being ripped in two sorry tmi. I took some fybogel which sorted it. Very painful and sore for nearly a week after EC. I was worried I had OHSS too but like you I also didn't feel sick and could still wee ok.
Hope your ET goes ok and your symptoms get better. Didn't get to finish my post last night and then lost it...
Hi, I can’t answer your question but wanted to ask if you were on the long or short protocol? I am being put on the short one due to an increased risk of OHSS and wondered if you were identified as at higher risk than usual as part of your pre tests?
Hi Tynemouth_mrs... In honesty I'm not sure! I think I'm on a short protocol, had about 3 weeks of Buserelin injections then a week of Gonal F @ 225. Everything seemed normal with my tests, no mention of me being a risk for OHSS.
I had OHSS, So our embryos were frozen as I was too poorly for transfer. OHSS can get worse in the early stages of pregnancy, so I would definitely get checked out if you are worried xx
When I had OHSS I just knew I didn’t feel right. Very bloated and swollen tummy with abdominal pain. Pain almost like trapped wind, tried drinking warm water etc but nothing helped and I still felt bloated even when I drank lots of water. I left it a couple of days thinking it would get better until I eventually knew something just wasn’t right and I went to the hospital. Mine was diagnosed after my ET and was made worse because I was pregnant (as pregnancy hormone) makes symptoms worse. Being pregnant got me through it. Hoping you start to feel better and you don’t have it but just keep a close eye on how you feel. Could just be general bloating from egg collection. All the luck for your precious embryos and ET day xx
Thank you Isa84. It has eased a bit today... either that or I'm getting used to it! I'm thinking it's just general bloating as I don't seem to have any other symptoms, the cramping is easing too. Thanks for the luck wishes xx
Don’t worry too much. I had about 16 eggs when I got pregnant with my son and my estrogen levels were elevated. I think with OHSS bad enough to freeze all embryos you’re looking at really high egg number, like 50.
The trapped wind and constipation you’ve mentioned sounds all too familiar. One of the things I was told was NOT to drink gallons of water. One of the issues with OHSS is that your body starts storing water around your organs so taking on loads isn’t a great idea. They told me to drink milk and have yogurts etc.... which didn’t help with the constipation at all. They also said eat a high protein diet because protein helps disperse the water. Of course it may not be OHSS the pessaries can cause constipation too.
I’d try Fibogel..... it’s a lot better for you and more natural than laxitives. If your in the clear from OHSS then you’re right to drink lots of water but if your estrogen levels are elevated I’d just drink water when you’re thirsty until it calms down, have milk and yoghurts with meals.
You CAN still get pregnant, I did. Unfortunately the pain continued throughout the two week wait and implantation felt like I was getting the period from hell so it was a huge emotional rollercoaster but turned out ok in the end.
I had 26 collected and felt as though i was in a really bad way... my stomach was huge, i could barely move, i looked like i was about to drop! I had pain, was uncomfortable, couldnt drive because of the pain when going over pot holes etc but the clinic said to me as long as im not being constantly sick and still have urine output to just monitor it and to just get on with things basically as bloating etc was all normal due to amount of eggs collected.. I had EC, ET all fine, my bloating didnt go down until after 2WW but i got my BFP and im currently 6 weeks gone ❤️ Best of luck xx
Ugh. I feel for you. I had severe OHSS and was in the hospital and had to get my stomach drained. I also was vomiting and the constipation was a nightmare. I had to be moved to a Frozen transfer. But I have read women with OHSS getting a fresh cycle and it working. Just if you get pregnant (which hopefully you will!) it takes a lot longer for the symptoms to go away. I was in no shape or physical health for it. Just be honest with your doctor about how you are feeling and frozen transfers are just as successful they say. Listen to your body. Good Luck!
I'm starting to understand that now, you can get preg but the symptoms just last a bit longer. I think I could put up with them knowing I could be preg at the end of it! Gosh that sounds awful hope all is ok now and you're having a positive experience!
Good luck with your cycle!!! I was the same, v uncomfy, bloated, in a lot of pain for a good week after EC. I wasn’t well enough for the transfer but embryos frozen and transfer the month after. Make sure you’re eating lots of extra protein, my Consultant had me on those protein shakes as it helps to heal the ovaries. Try done prune juice and drink tonnes of water and step up veg!! I find Senna makes me poorly and gives me painful cramps. Check with your Dr if you’re not feeling any better! Wishing you lots of luck xxx
Definitely call your ivf nurses to get bloods and a scan if you’re concerned. I’ve had OHSS twice, the first time when I had 33 eggs collected and they did a freeze all and put me on meds straight away, the second time I had 13 eggs collected and knew I had it again but doctors said that it was unlikely. I ended up taking myself to a different hospital where I needed to have my chest drained of fluid and was quite poorly so if any doubt whatsoever get checked out. The first time round the only symptom was a swollen abdomen and the fact they retrieved 33 eggs. The second time I was swollen and very breathless. Good luck for your transfer and hope everything can go ahead as planned but definitely get checked if you’re concerned xxx
