Just been for my final scan before egg collection on Thursday, the nurse said I have this ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome but she didn’t really explain it very well. Has anyone else experienced this? She said at the end of the conversation did I still want to go ahead with egg collection considering I have this syndrome my heart dropped and I bite her head of saying YES DEFINITELY.... can anyone tell me more about this or explain why I would t of wanted to continue treatment???

Hi there,
I am not really sure why you wouldnt go ahead with egg collection, someone else may have the answer to that. Possibly because you will still have to stim for a couple more days and full blown OHSS can make you very ill and some ladies have to go into hospital. So they have to see if you want to continue.
As I got a high number of eggs I had to have a 'freeze all' cycle, so I think you should prepare yourself for the possibilty that this ia highly likely. Your eggs and partners sperm will be put together and any embryos made will be frozen. This will give your body a chance to get over the OHSS and then you would have a frozen embryo transfer at a later date. As any potential pregnancy now would only elevate your hormone levels more and potentially make you very ill. Did they give you any advice on how to manage symptoms etc and what to look out for xx
OHSS can be mild, but can also be quite severe and in some cases women end up in hospital. It’s not great. So, as the other responder here says, the nurse probably asked whether you want to continue with stims - but she should have really explained it better.... in my first cycle I had high risk of OHSS so I was told we had to do a freeze all (freeze all embryos rather than fresh embryo replacement) , again like other responder said - as being pregnant can make OHSS worse. Some women still go ahead to pregnancy with OHSS , but it’s considered very risky so mostly they advise against it.
We did a freeze all and had to wait two or three cycles for my body to recover before going for a frozen transfer - so be prepared in case they advise the same, it’s so disappointing but it’s the healthier option for you if doctors recommend x
I had OHSS after stims on my first cycle so we did freeze all. I had it again on my third cycle and I felt really bloated and had quite a lot of pain, but it was manageable with paracetamol. After 4 days it had gone down and we did a fresh transfer. Xx
Hi love. Im assuming she meant going ahead with embryo transfer maybr? Sometimes when you have alot of follicles/eggs it puts you in a higher risk of getting ill. From mild stomach pains, to unbearable pains, dizziness sickness and so on. I was only at risk of OHSS due to alot of eggs collected and even just with a slight risk they did a freeze all and wasnt even given an option of what i wanted to do. I was devastated as i was mentally prepared to do the transfer. However now i look back at it ‘freeze all’ was the best option. Yes i had to wait a couple months which felt like a long wait bt the FET process is much more relaxing for your body. So just be aware this could be the case.If they do think its a risk they wont give you an option bt tell you what they will have to do. Also if you are at risk just make sure u keep super hydrated after ur egg retrieval. I was told lots of water and coconut water. Wish you all the best and i know waiting is hard but dnt forget to put ur bodys health first as u need it in its best state to make ur baby x
I had a risk of OHSS 3 times, you should really talk to the doctor and it all should have been explained to you. The risk can not be high if she said it so lightly. In my case I have never gone ahead with fresh transfer as it can lead to serious complications. I would advise you speak to your doctor x Good luck x
Yep, happened to me and i had to do a freeze all then wait two months for an FET. Read some of my posts x
I was suffering from OHSS on my second round of ICSI in Dec and was given the option of freezing or fresh transfer at my egg collection.I asked if there was any risk to the embryo if i went ahead with a fresh transfer and was told there wasnt,it could just mean that I was ill.Id prepared myself that much that I decided to take the risk. They collected 21 eggs and put me on antibiotics for a week.I have 4 frozen day 5 & 6 embryos and had 1 day 5 blasocyst transferred.Im now 12 weeks pregnant.Still suffered from the occasional bloating but after transfer, the OHSS symptoms seemed to reduce.Good luck with your cycle!
I ended up with 36 follicles the week before my egg collection so I already knew they were planning a freeze all, when I went in I had 25 eggs and was really uncomfortable so they froze everything they collected and I had to wait a few months before we could proceed with the frozen embryo transfer.
It’s really disappointing but can be really dangerous for you and a foetus if you’ve got OHSS and then do become pregnant. I felt really unwell and so uncomfortable for the week after my egg collection but I could stay at home, some people (especially if you get pregnant) end up having to be admitted to hospital so I’m glad they didn’t proceed with our fresh transfer.x
Thanks everyone, she didn’t mention freeze all so I would of been so shocked. Egg collection tomorrow 🤞🏽 personally I feel ok... abit bloated and when it gets to evening all I want to do is stretch out but apart from that I’m all good. Xxx
