Op 😬😬

So our fertility journey has been on hold for a couple of months. Since I was diagnosed with Hydrosalpinx in October I went for a follow up appointment with consultant in November who said it would be best to take out the damaged Fallopian tube and then came the wait for a date when I could go in. Well that date has finally come around and I’m due to have the operation on Wednesday, scared 😬 has anyone else had this kind of surgery?

I’m interested as to what happens after I’ve had it done, the recovery is around two weeks I’ve been told but have people had follow ups after this to see what the next steps are. We were told that we should be able to conceive naturally after it’s taken out but I’m wondering whether we just go away and begin trying and if it doesn’t happen then what, would I have to go through the whole referral process back to the fertility clinic? Has anyone had any experience of this?

Hi Lucy

I had the same op back in December unfortunately they found my other tube was not functioning and my husband also has swimmer problems so we have to go for icsi which is due to start March/ April (fingers crossed)

I had a follow up appointment with my surgeon who is also my ivf consultant a week after surgery, he only checked my wounds and had a feel of my tummy but did give me my follow up plan.

Plenty rest after surgery is needed, hope this helps.

Sx

Thank you so much.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you when you start your IVF hopefully it’ll all be ok.

When I had my scan they said my other Fallopian tube looked okay but they would only be able to be certain during surgery so I’m hoping the other tube is ok.

Xx

Thanks Lucy,

I was the same they were unsure bad the damage was on my right tube or how the left one was until surgery but managed to leave hospital with my left tube intact 😬

Good luck for surgery.

Hi I had this op last year feb one tube was found to have alot of fluid at my first private ivf consultation . The consultant said I won't be able to do ivf without it been removed . We done the op privately and the recovery was ok. I took a total of 4 weeks off from work because i had some bruising in the area and my job as a nurse is very hectic so i didnt want to go back till i felt sure. It was sore but not painful. I had a follow up after 2 weeks. The doctor advise to wait for 2 periods then the 3rd period I would start ivf if all was ok which we did. We didn't have to go over the full initial consulation, bloods etc.

Thank you so much for your reply

The consultant also said to me that I wouldn’t be able to go for IVF without the tube being removed but he said that I “should” be able I conceive naturally once the damaged tube was gone as long as everything is ok with the other tube so fingers crossed.

Good luck with your journey xx
