I’ve been hanging around for a while reading all your amazing stories and now finally plucked up the courage to post myself! I’m 32 and have been trying for over 2.5 years. I had laparoscopy in Nov to remove some moderate endo, other than that, all normal.
We have our first appt at the Fertility clinic on Tues for my baseline scan. I’ve no idea what to expect! Were then booked in for a consultant and nurse appt on 19th Jan. Does anyone know when treatment would actually start after these appts? Would it be start of the next cycle and what is the first stage?
Many thanks and happy new year to all!

The baseline scan is the first step of IVF - based on it they will decide which route to stimulation they want to take. The entire layout of your process will be done accordingly. The IVF in brief: they will give you BC to get an AF first over the next cycle. Thereafter they will stimulate the ovaries to produce more number of eggs. Then it will be fertilized in-vitro and then the embryo will be transferred in your uterus for it to stick and become a baby. Expect a lot of medications throughout the process depending on your individual need - even the progesterone pessaries to maintain the optimum level. ICSI would be good to ensure the good quality embryos and maintain a good number of them. Don't opt out of embryo banking as that's a better chance of conceiving - more the number of embryos you can have more FETs and better are your chances of conceiving. Good Luck!
Thanks so much! Yes we get 2 fresh and 2 frozen cycles on the NHS from what I understand so definitely want to freeze any we can. So I guess I won’t start on any drugs until after the consultant/nurse appt? I’m wondering if they will be able to put me on the pill as I was told to come off it years ago due to migraines and had the coil instead. Maybe because it’s a short period of time it won’t matter though. Thanks again for the info! Trying to read up as much as I can.
Yes have just finished first round of ivf with them and got our BFP!!. We have our 7 week scan in couple of weeks. They have been brilliant, all staff are so kind and caring. They make you feel at ease the whole way through. Good luck xx
Oh that’s so lovely to hear! Congratulations!! You must be so excited. So hope it works for us first time too. Good luck for your scan! Will be so exciting to see your little baby! Xx
Thank you. Yes it really does work. Can’t wait for the scan just feels like so long away. Their stats are very good. By far the hardest part is the waiting lol. Xx
Actually one question I’m still unsure of, do they wait for a fresh cycle to start the treatment? I.e. wait for you to get your next period? Our consultant and nurse appts are on 19th Jan which should be around CD5 for me so wondering if I’ll need to wait a whole month longer to start the treatment.
They asked when my last period was an mine was about two weeks before first scan it seemed to all start quickly from there. They sort out the pill etc which will take control of your cycle anyway. Xx
It was fine thanks. Just the baseline scan but she said ovaries are accessible and follicles look fine so that’s positive! I did find it really hit me that this is really happening though so found today weirdly difficult. Just such a daunting experience I guess. Thank you for checking! How are you feeling? Xx
That’s so great! We can support each other as we go! When do you start? Did you get put on the pill straight from your initial consultation? Good luck! Xx
