Not posted for a goodly while. Yesterday I finally got a 2nd opinion regarding our difficulties with conceiving and my potential hydrosalpinx. Saw a great consultant this time who didn’t hesitate to get me booked for a lap to investigate the possible endo and remove if possible. He will also remove my damaged tube and run the dye test for the other tube. Got a 2-3month wait but great he will do this without us needing to pay privately before we go for ivf as unable to get that on nhs due to my age. Although it’s taken 4.5months to see this consultant I feel more confident at last.

Anyone happy to share their lap / removal of tube stories - especially recovery time etc please. Thanks for reading. xx

Hi,

I had lap back in Oct 2015, I didn't have much pain from the keyhole itself and I healed quickly from the small incisions they made (3 in total). I felt a bit dizzy in the evening due to the anaesthetic but that's to be expected. I had mine so the surgeon could try to unblock my tubes. It didn't really work for me and I'm now going through IVF but everything operation wise went fine and I went home that evening. xx

I had the op on the Friday, rested on the weekend and returned to work on the Monday. I didn't overdo anything in work, my line manager knew that I had had the keyhole surgery so I was supported on that side of things. I drank lots of water afterwards as I had low blood pressure which gave me headaches but that was it.

I didn't go to the gym for about 2 weeks but that was my choice, I was just being lazy

Hi Kenny75. So sorry you're having to go through all of this, but pleased to hear that the "nasty" tube will be removed. Excess lubrication from such a tube can spill into the womb and prevent implantation of a developing embryo, so best rid. Hope all goes smoothly for you and pregnancy is not too far away. Good luck! I had a lap and dye in 2015 they found adhesions that they cut out. I found it fine although I took a week off work to recover. The cut through your stomach muscles so i found it uncomfortable getting up and down from sitting and standing position but it healed quickly and only 3 small scars x

Useful to know. I’m a teacher so am up and down all day long on small infant sized chairs. Can be hard enough when having bad pains/ bleeding let alone after keyhole. Was thinking a week may be necessary. Thanks for replying.

Not to worry you but just wanted to give another side, I had a lap and ovarian drilling which unfortunately didn’t go smoothly and although I didn’t stay in massive amounts of pain post op I was off work for 2 weeks recovering. I’m glad your finally getting the surgery you need and I hope it all goes well xx

I had a lap, 3 small incisions, scarring wasnt bad either and you could hardly see them. Only thing is getting up and lying down a bit uncomfortable for a few days and thats it really. Im also going to have a horrible tube removed in the next few weeks so hopefully things should all be ok

hi, i had a lap last march with one tube removed and adhesions removed. As a teacher too i definitely wasn't up for going back after a week so took 3 weeks off. Glad i didn't rush back so had time to recover properly before being up and down on the floor all day. PE and playground duty were also out for a good 6 weeks. i have 4 small scars, one in my belly button, one above each hip and one just on my knicker line which aren't really noticeable. Glad i had it as ivf worked for us and I'm now 28 weeks pregnant. Good luck! X

Thanks for the info. Quick question as you know what schools are like!

Did you tell school before that you would have 3 weeks off and would be off PE / duty rota for the long or was it doctor notes etc afterwards. I’m already picturing very difficult discussions around this! I’ve always put career first .... but not this time!

thank you, feeling her kick makes the whole process worth while. Yea, I've been lucky that my head is very family orientated so I've been upfront about the whole thing from the start and have been well supported-do you think your head will be supportive?

We prepared with supply for 2 weeks but then extended it for the 3rd. Thankfully my TA was an angel too and helped out so much.

It's not as scary as it sounds and i think if it was a desk job wouldn't have needed as long but you know what small, fast kids are like in school. Feel free to message anytime for advice or to have a moan, its a long, difficult journey but with a bit of luck all will come good in the end! X

The trouble is my head only joined us in january (I knew my previous one for 12 years and had worked so closely with her as part of her management team that she was so supportive and like family!) The new Head is a bloke and so far doesn’t seem overly interested in getting to know us as people let alone our medical issues or problems to conceive! Same for our deputy too really as she’s a young ‘fast-tracker’ who is so career driven and expects the world of all the teachers getting very annoyed if anyone has a day off!

I’ll work it out. Haven’t told them yet about the op - plan to tomorrow but thought I’d see if I cold find any advice regarding time scales on here first - and thanks to you I have!

I had a laparoscopy last year. It was a lap n dye but my fertility doctor found and removed endometriosis in POD. My tubes are fine- endometriosis is my fertility issue.

I did conceive straight away but sadly I miscarried. Still it was huge progress as we’d been ttc for 6 years with no positive test till endo was found and treated. Before that we were being advised for IVF - the lap was a last chance ditch attempt. We also couldn’t get ivf on the NHs.

hi, I had a lap done on Monday, both tubes removed and adhesions lasered due to endo & a previous infection. I have 3 incisions. I went in in the morning, had the procedure circa 3.30pm and was out by 8.30pm. The pain & discomfort was bad to be honest. Morphine helped on Monday, bad pain on Tuesday & v depressed & tearful yesterday, Wednesday. Today however is a big improvement and Im feeling a lot better & havent taken any pain killers yet!. My procedure was unexpected so Im still in some shock. Im in discomfort but not pain, moving slowly, hard to bend, put on socks etc. I would advise a week off, to get over the anesthetic alone let alone the op. V strange to have a part of you missing...Best of luck, X.
