Hi, following ivf embryo transfer how many weeks is usual for progesterone to be taken?
I've been given pessaries only up to week 7. however I'm worried this won't be long enough. I had previous miscarriages and heard and read that taking progesterone for longer might help lower risk of miscarriage. Please can anyone help? Thanks

It’s so hard isn’t it but I think our gut instincts often know. Maybe you could speak to your GP and get a prescription if your clinic won’t give you any? X
My clinic has said up to the first scan. I'm taking inter muscular injections of progesterone in my bum and I really hope I'm pregnant but my goodness I'm not sure how much longer I can handle these and I've only done 4 so far!!!
My clinic say up to first scan (around 7 weeks) for a fresh cycle (though the nurse did say it was a precaution and you could stop after BFP) and 12 weeks for a frozen cycle. I don’t know why they need it to be more for a frozen cycle though. If you’re feeling uncomfortable due to previous losses could you explain this and ask to stay on it until week 12?
Hiyah. Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. My clinic gave me some at start of treatment then handed me a prescription straight after transfer so I can continue until the 7 week scan if I get a positive. I guess if I get to the scan and there's a heartbeat they will give me some more although I'm registered with the Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic who have always prescribed it to me in the past as soon as I've had a viability scan. X
I was told to take it for 12 and did so but phoned when I was running low and nurse said she’d just got back from a major conference abroad somewhere on this and there is no evidence to take it past 7 wk. I’m certainly no expert but that may be why you’ve only been given 7 wks worth. It’s worth asking. This was only a few weeks ago I was told x
My fertility clinic said until 9 weeks. Was taking 600mg utrogestan. However I was bleeeding so asked them to give me to last until 12 weeks. I asked my ob to prescribe poi. So in addition to the utrogestan pessaries also got 100mg of poi for two weeks then reduced it by myself to 50mg for another week. So basically took until the end of 12 weeks. Bleeding stopped at about 10 or 11 weeks.
Hi thank you so much for your reply 😊 that's really interesting. It sounds like your clinic are being helpful and treating you as an individual rather than just another number.
This forum has helped me so much more than my clinic have. I'm really grateful to have come across it. xx
