I'm new to this group.
I'm 38 years old and ttc. I lost a baby at 29 weeks about 11months ago and I've been trying to get pregnant again ever since. I've been referred to a fertility clinic and have done some tests, and it turns out I'm on the lower side of the AMH? (5.1)
Can anyone help explain what all these tests say? I'm so scared going to my appointment at the fertility clinic on the 16th of Jan.
hi Jo, sorry to hear of your loss last year. With regards to your AMH, it really is only an indicator of your egg reserve. Even though 5.1 is on the lower side, you can still get lots of good follicles and lots of good eggs. You will see some ladies on here who have conceived with even lower AMH levels. Just to give you some re-assurance, I am 37 and have an AMH of 5.4 and was told this was a very low number but I still managed to get 13 eggs, all mature and all 13 fertilised into 5 day embryos from IVF - so try not to focus on the AMH number for now. Can I ask if you went private or if you had IVF via NHS?
I live in east London and was told by my GP that they are looking for a AMH at 5.4 for funded IVF. If that's the case I'm 0.3 away.
All my other test results was normal.
So scared of beeing told I can't get help from the NHS as private would not be an option for me due to the cost.

Sorry for your loss, I can't imagine what that must have been like.
I'm constantly trying to get my head around the various tests and it seems that people interpret them in different ways. I think your amh sounds fine for your age. My was 10.03 at 34 and is now 6.3 at 35. When I had it retested recently the results came with a reference guide which I've copied below. It only goes up to age 34 but your levels are still within the range for that age bracket! Hope this helps xxx

Age 20 - 24 ( 8.7 - 83.6)
Age 25 - 29 ( 6.4 - 70.3)
Age 30 - 34 ( 4.1 - 58.0)

I don't know if it's the same but in my CCG there is a list of criteria and amh is only one of them. If your amh is deemed too low that doesn't necessarily knock you out. They also look at your antral follicle count which is when they scan your ovaries and see how many follicles you have growing. In my area at least, you only need one of the criteria to be within their limits to qualify. It would be worth looking at (if you haven't already). Good luck x
In my area they only look at fsh levels. It’s so different in different areas, but in my area you’re also not eligible if you’ve had a pregnancy within the past two years. Hopefully this won’t be the case for you.
AMH is an indicator of your ovarian reserve. Wishing you lots of luck for your appointment on the 16th January x
Quality over quantity. Keep hold of that. I’ve known much worse amh levels with success at the end. Good luck x
I’m so sorry for your loss.
From my research AMH is an indicator (and only that) of how you may respond to IVF stimulation. It does not predict your ability relative to anyone else to get pregnant naturally. And you know that is possible.
I know the NHS is a total lottery, but I’d recommend that if they stand firm on the min AMH level, that you consider getting retested. Like all fertility tests, your AMH can fluctuate. I have had mine tested 3 times in 2 years - the first 2 were pretty similar, and the third was way higher. No idea why, but presumably because we are only as bad as our worst menstrual cycle. I always got mine tested on day 3 of my cycle along with LH, FSH and a few other things. If you’ve had these day 3 tests before you will know they fluctuate and interface with each other.
