How long does it take to get a donor match?

So we’ve decided to go down the donor egg route as my ageing eggs haven’t worked for us. We saw a consultant at Manchester Fertility over 5 weeks ago, already had all the test results before this and we’ve also had the recommended counselling appointment but I’m still waiting for a donor match. We were asked what characteristics we wanted in a donor so I just asked for similar physical ones to myself which aren’t that unusual: average height, average weight, brown hair, brown eyes. I’ve already started taking the pill, as advised by the consultant, and I really just want get on with this process, it’s so hard always feeling in limbo, and I’m not getting any younger. Please can anyone who’s done DE let me know how long it took for them to get a donor match and any tips on matching characteristics. Is it unrealistic/inadvisable to ask for certain physical characteristics? Thanks all xxx

my sister in law has undergone donor egg treatment with the same company I'm under, except they are going abroad for treatment and they got a donor match within 11 days I think? Its dependant on where you are having the treatment carried out I think, as the UK has a law that you cant donate your eggs anonymously and you don't get paid much to do it there aren't many young women coming forwards to donate. In any case I really hope you get one soon! waiting is the hardest part of treatment! xx

Thank you 😊 I’m not a very patient person at the best of times although you’d have thought after 6 years of this waiting game I’d have got more chilled 😉 xx

Hey, I had to give my blood type then height, weight, hair colour, skin type/tone, frame, eye colour for myself and hubby and give photos of us both. We got asked if there was anything else that was important to us which there wasnt really and I guess this narrows down the donor numbers the more things that you request. Our clinic came back with a match in around 24 hours. Donor was an inch taller than me, same eye colour, hair colour, slightly slimer than me (which was a bonus) and we also got given her occupation and education level. All sounded pretty thorough really. Now as you probably know we are doing treatment abroad so I know its all a bit different to the UK so some of the others can perhaps help on timescales for the UK. Can you ask the clinic if they have any updates or have you done that already?xx

Wow that’s speedy fab! I emailed the clinic last week and the unhelpful donor nurse said it can be a few days to a few weeks. Well it’s already been 5 weeks so I’m going to chase her again. Getting paranoid she doesn’t like me so I’d deliberately messing us about. This process has turned me into a crazy lady!

Really sorry to hear your last round didn’t work. It sounds like you’re being very pragmatic about it though and great news you’ve got frosties in the freezer. Belated happy birthday to you xxxx

Well to be honest i wasnt expecting it and it was a wee bit overwhelming however looking back I wouldn't have wanted it any other way! Don't be worrying about how the clinic feel, you've paid good money so entitled to chase up and ask questions!!

Thank you, it's a shame it hasn't worked but also I did know from being on here that not everyone gets a good outcome first time around. I am a very logical person, not that it hurt any less but that's life!!xx

Sorry just seen this post after commenting on mine! It took them about 3-5wks from signing all the paperwork to find mine. I did only get one match provided as had read somewhere in their literature that you got 3, but they said they only had the 1 that matched my hair colour/eyes and what I wanted in someone. Was more interested in that really than the looks, as long as had dark hair. We then missed that cycle as was not told to start the pill 🙄 so went with this cycle, but all in all from going till now took about 3 months. Same clinic as you as well!

How ironic we are now going to be on this path together too! Hope you get your match soon, mine was literally sent over via email on a Friday night. Didn't get a call to let me know and was just casually going through my emails one Friday night and saw the email and started shouting at my hubby, 'we have a match'! Haha!! Are you doing the access package? Xx

Thanks hon Sounds like a very exciting surprise present! 👏🏻

We’re not doing the Access programme as OH doesn’t want to pay out that much money and TBH with my age (44) I don’t think I’ll be having many more goes at this. I desperately want to be a Mum but I also know at some point I’m going to have to draw a line and stop. So, no pressure this time then!

It is very spooky we’re on the same journey again! I’m going to chase up the clinic again now for an update. Xxxx

friends of my sis underwent IVF DE at clinics abroad. From what I know there is one week waiting time at Gdansk IVF clinic (Poland) and about 2-4 week waiting time at Czech clinics.
