I'm considering a final round of IVF and will need to use donor eggs.
I have looked into numerous clinics abroad especially in Cyprus. I've been asking the clinic about how they match me with a donor with similar characteristics to me. They have advised me that they may need to delay my ivf until they find a suitable donor. I'm struggling to get my head around the planning..... any advice from anyone who has done this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

I did mine with a clinic in Prague. I was asked basic details about hair color, eye color, height etc. then was provided with 3 anonymous donors to choose from. I did not wait because of the donor, but to ensure I was ready for transfer both physically and emotionally.
I did and everything was so quick. Getting a match was so easy and quick. We had treatment in Athens and we hadbto give the clinic both of mine and hubby, hair colour, height, eye colour, body type, skin colour, blood type and also photos of both of us....we were using hubby's sperm btw. Good luck.xx
Hi, I looked at Cyprus and some European clinics but availability of fair skinned blonde donors was really tricky. I'm a bit of a control freak and wanted to choose from a reasonable selection rather than have a clinic do the matching. I'm also too impatient to wait an unspecified amount of time for a donor to be found 🙃. The two places I narrowed down were Ukraine and South Africa.
I am using a clinic in Cape Town, they have their own donor agency and also work with another company to give you loads of choice. The donor coordinator is great at sending you matches she thinks are closest for you to choose from.
The donor is anonymous, but to be honest that means less and less these days with the rise of home genetic testing - also the donor is anonymous because local laws are that all donors must be in SA, so there is a chance if laws change that she would agree to being contacted.
Donor compensation is similar to UK (£750) and treatment is also a lot cheaper than UK, but obviously it's a bloody long way to travel and flights aren't cheap so I'm now in a position where I have 3 Pg tested embryos but to travel over for each transfer will get expensive! Although, Cape town is absolutely amazing so no hardship to be there.
I used clinic in north Cyprus, they gave me three egg donors to choose from and eight sperm donors to choose from. They had asked for my basic requirements and I was happy to choose from what they offered, I found the hair, eyes, skin I wanted with what they offered me. Donor choosing was the last thing I did before going. They’re anonymous as that’s the law in that part of Cyprus. I’m very happy with the clinic, patient liaisons are lovely and answered millions of questions for me, there was no pressure or feeling rushed, I was in contact with them for. A few years before actually going, the doctor and nurses where nice too.
That’s good to know as that’s who we are going to use when we go. Can I ask how long ago you went? They have been good so far with answering my questions but they have been a bit vague on the donor front as I want to do tandem ivf
Yes, and I'm holding my baby girl right now. They gave us a list and I went with someone who looked similar with a similar education. My advice is to stay positive but realistic. Our donor only made 1 good embryo and that was so disappointing. But one was all it took. I also have genetic children. I love my baby girl just as much as my genetic children. Nothing could make me love her more. So don't worry about that part of it either. You'll be so glad you decided to use a donor. Good luck!
Thank you, that’s so good to hear. It’s also good that you pointed out about your donor only having one good embryo as I think in my head I keep thinking there will be loads but it’s good to also think the other way so it’s not such a let down.
Sorry to jump in, but thanks for saying that, I have a genetic son and thinking of going with donors if our next transfer doesn’t work, good to hear your experience of having both 🤗 x
