Not sure what to think, pessaries?

Our daughter tested yesterday and amazingly got a bfp! As some of you know we'd lost hope as she started what seemed like a full on af 7 days after ET and when she tested then she got a bfn.

The clinic have booked her in for a scan on 14th September; she has to test again on Friday to see if she's had a chemical or is actually still pregnant. They've told her to stop taking the pessaries which is concerning her a little, is this normal please? She's not had any signs of being pregnant so far.

Thank you, I don't know what I'd have done without you all! I've had other family here for the last few days so not had much time to come on here, sorry 😔 🌹 xxx

Hi Sunonarainyday. Well, it's good to hear that your daughter is still pregnant, and I do hope this continues. Not too sure why they have stopped the pessaries, as most consultants like you to continue to 12 weeks of pregnancy, or at least to the 6 weeks scan. Best to ask the clinic again, I think. Good luck! Diane

Thank you Diane, you're a star! I'll tell her to ring them again. Actually I've just checked her messages and it's because they said it was a fresh cycle? She used her final pessary last night so she's worrying about it now as she's been on google, I wish she'd just come on here as she'd get much better advice! xx

Hi Sunonarainyday. Still get her to contact the clinic. fresh or frozen, the general advice is usually to 6 or 12 weeks. Obviously she is best guided by her specialist. Good luck! Diane

Oh my goodness what a pickle!

Congratulations on the positive test.

I'm a bit surprised she's been told to stop the progesterone pessaries tho? I was on mine until my 6week scan. If I hadn't miscarried I'd been on them until I was 12 weeks. ( My consultant put me on them after my bleeding episode)

To be really honest I had no symptoms of a Pregnancy before testing- Pregnancy symptoms don't always come on till later. And some women don't have any- my mother in law had none with her's!!! To say it's a sign of chemical Pregnancy if there are no symptoms at this early stage where most women wouldn't even know they were pregnant is complete rubbish!

My biggest advice to your daughter is to insist on having the HCG measured via two blood tests- don't make her wait until the six week scan it nearly killed me doing that,- next time I wouldn't wait.

If it is a chemical Pregnancy get them to take swabs to check for infection- I've been pretty unwell since the miscarriage and I've just learned scans do not always pick up on any left over contents. My doctor has taken swabs and of the results aren't good I'll be straight into the doctor's. The risk of infection after a miscarriage can be high.

My sister had heavy bleeding- which was caused by implantation it is not always light. Maybe your daughter had heavier implantation bleeding?

I wish your daughter well and I truly hope it's good news for you both xoxo

Oh Jess thank you so much! Her hubby who is, incidentally, a GP asked the clinic to do an HCG blood test but they just told him they don't do it! It's all a bit of a worry tbh as we don't know what to think! xxxx

in reply to

That is such rubbish- can they get a referral to the EPU? They might want to run HCG blood tests.

Or failing that could they pay for a private blood tests? I had one done at babybond clinic ( I missed my period in December- was a neg) it cost me £40. They clinics all over the country.

Its going to be such a worry for your daughter- if she still pregnant it's not good for her or the baby to worry like that.

Its an awful wait between test and scan if you've had bleeding to know if everything is OK.

As for them not issuing progesterone pessaries on what grounds? A miscarriage hasn't been confirmed. They are talking crap! She should be on them until 12 weeks or a miscarriage has been confirmed. xoxo

Hi, I was only given 2 weeks of pessaries - started on the day after my EC and finished using them on the day of my OTD. I also got a BFP and my 6 week scan was fine. I thought this was quite normal but other people on here seem to have different cycles. If that's all they gave her then that's probably all that's needed. Perhaps it's to do with how well her lining was doing, I know mine was a good thickness so perhaps they thought the oven was good enough for the bun, if you know what I mean!!

p.s. I didn't have any symptoms in 2ww, except minor ovary pain. Still hardly have any now

Thank you and huge congrats on your bfp!!

It's because of the 5 day bleed that we're so concerned, I understand that what will be will be, but if she does lose it then we need to know we did everything we could iykwim xxx

I understand your concern, I assume all of this has been communicated to the clinic. I get confused as to why some clinics do it so differently. I don't even know what hcg levels are as my clinic never did any, and other people seem to get blood tests to confirm pregnancy but my first proper confirmation was the 6 week scan. I'm surprised they haven't booked her in for an earlier scan or tests at least due to the bleed. Even though I didn't agree with everything they did, I trusted that the clinic knew what they were doing. I would say tell her not to worry, but do make sure she is getting her queries responded to by a consultant and not one of the nurses. I found the nurses very helpful but often a little dismissive of my questions. Pass on my congratulations for your daughters BFP xxx

Congratulations on her BFP! I've never heard of being told to stop taking pessaries so early - I've had 1 fresh and 2 FET cycles and with all have been advised to take them until 12 weeks if successful. Maybe she could double check with her clinic for re assurance x

What wonderful news. Congratulations to your daughter for the pregnancy. And you for your future grandson. I hope you continue your pregnancy with total normality and without any inconvenience. Always keep the faith that everything will fit you. I wish you the best and good luck to your daughter.

Really lovely news and I hope all continues well.

As far as I know, you should always continue with all medication even after the pregnancy is confirmed, as this gives it the best chance of progressing as it should. I was on mine until 12 + 6...it acts as a bit of an insurance policy.

I really do hope that she gets some answers soon and that everything continues smoothly xx

I only got pessaries for 2 weeks... my clinic said there wasn't need for longer, unless they suspected a hormone problem.

Oh congratulations to u and your daughter!! I agree on the pessary thing though...very strange as I was told to keep taking them for 12wks on both my fresh and frozen cycle....and I definitely have no hormone or lining issues myself.

They are there to protect any drop in progesterone production as your hormones are switched off when down regging. I had to take twice as much on a frozen as a fresh cycle as in a fresh cycle your trigger shot either gives u progesterone or stimulates your body into producing it (not sure which) but on a medicated frozen cycle your body has no "kick start" so extra support is needed. Was it a natural cycle with no down regging? As that's the only reason I'd say you may not need to take it? xxx

Congratulations on your daughter's bfp. I hope she managed to get some clarification from the clinic. I know ours says to use pessaries until 12 weeks but it appears some clinic take a different approach. Hope all is well at the 6 week scan xx

Hey

I agree with what the girls have said. Also about getting the HCG bloods. I went private to a clinic and did one on a Wednesday then the other the following Monday. I had to see if they were doubling every 48-72 hours.

My last miscarriage the hospital said take a pos test in 2 weeks. It would have said positive even though I was miscarrying because of the HCG levels.

If the blood HCG is doubling it's a good sign. She can also ask for progesterone levels to be taken by bloods.

Wishing her all the luck and praying this is a sticky bean xx
