Hi,

Looking for some information from others who have had treatment in Edinburgh.Myself and partner have just been referred to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. We got referred 7th of June, and they have said first appointment will be within 12 weeks. I have seen mixed posts about length of times etc, just wondering if any of you have been there recently/are in the process of waiting for/having treatment there and could share with me any info about waiting times etc and what to expect? Sending you all lots of luck for your own journeys πŸ’•πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ

Hey

I'm having treatment in Edinburgh (due to start 3rd shot in August).

Is this appointment your first at the fertility clinic? For us we had a letter with an appointment date at the fertility clinic and then at that appointment we discussed what treatment we would need (also male factor). We were weighed and discussed other various health questions.

We were then told we would be put on the waiting list and treatment would be in around 12 months. We waited 11 months before starting our treatment.

Hope this helps xxx

Hi,

Yeh waiting for our first appointment at fertility clinic. Spoken with others who have waited around 8 months and some like yourself a little longer.

Had you had tests done before going to fertility clinic? Is that with no hold ups just a general wait?

Thanks for getting back to me, how are you finding treatment now it has started? Good luck with it all πŸ’•Xxx

We had all tests done with GP prior to being referred to the clinic. They told us that the amount of people having fertility treatment had increased a lot and this was why the wait was so long. We went in November 2015 and started treatment October 2016.

I found the treatment itself absolutely fine to be honest. I was so scared about it all but it wasn't as bad as I'd imagined it would be.

For me I think the emotional side of it all is what I found really hard. This will be our 3rd shot (second frozen) so just praying this will work.

I've found Edinburgh to be ok, I've felt slightly disappointed that they haven't investigated further into why things have gone wrong for us (chemical pregnancies with both rounds we've had so far) but if this treatment isn't successful I'm going to be more firm with them! And hope they'll do some testing.

At your appointment they'll tell you how long the waiting list is (or at least they did with us) so it's quite good as you have a fairly good idea of when things are likely to start happening πŸ™‚

Thank you very much πŸ™‚πŸ€ž good luck to you also xxx

Hi,

Thanks for sharing so much. 11 months still isn't too long a time. I had myself thinking we didn't get referred onto the actual waiting list until a few appointments in.

Do you mind me asking the reasons you are having treatment? Ours is my partner has low motility, and I've read a lot of stories where ICSI has been used to help with this. Was it icsi or ivf you had?

Thank you, il make sure I ask. I was hoping to have a list of questions to ask but really I don't even know where to start with that. It's all so overwhelming.

Xxx

It is overwhelming, I felt they covered a lot when we went and all the way through they do keep asking if you'd like to ask anything but I remember feeling like they'd covered everything I might have asked.

We had icsi. My partner has low count, motility and morphology so all 3 are very poor.

I remember when we first heard how long the wait would be we really though it was ages to wait but it actually flew in! Xxx

Thank you, I had it in my mind I would be around 18 months before I actually got started as didn't realise you go on list so soon. Keeping positive 😊 Good luck to you πŸ’• Xxxx
