Hi! I've just been referred for IVF, both my partner and myself have fertility issues. My consultant told me that my BMI needs to be under 30 for treatment which it isa! But one of my friends who has had treatment said that if the partner is having fertility issues his BMI needs to be under 30 aswell, we've never been told this by my consultant and there's nothing on the criteria about the male needing a certain BMI? Help! I don't want to get to the appointment only to be turned away if he's not at the right weight after waiting so long for this!! Thanks in advance!
Is there a BMI criteria for males nee... - Fertility Network UK
Is there a BMI criteria for males needing IVF?
Our NHS consultant didnt say hubby needed to have a certain BMI and I can assure you, he wouldnt have passed....he's a little chunky! Oh and apart from my age the main issue was his very low sperm count. It was only my BMI that the clinic bothered about and weighed me etc. Good luck.xx
Oh good! Thank you, there so much to worry about! Just didn't want to get there and be told we have to wait any longer!
Have a look at your local CCG criteria! Our CCG required both me and hubby’s BMI to be below 30 (we are unexplained) he was 29.4! Absolute miracle. Not fat just really muscular xx
I think it depends on the local criteria as I know in South Wales the BMI has to be below 30 for both partners!
Good luck xXx
Same as me them!! I've been referred to Cardiff, but nothing has ever been mentioned about his BMI needing to be under 30! I'll be gutted if that's the case! Ive read all the online information about the criteria and nowhere does it say about the male BMI! I've emailed the fertility institute and hopefully they'll get back to me soon!
Was your treatment delayed or was your partner below 30? I'm worried because my other halfs BMI is about 35?!
We had a delay when first referred as both of us were over 30 then we were given a timescale to get it in line then once we returned we were both under but my DH was 29.7 so it was super close xXx
When we were referred to the NHS we were told it would only be my BMI that would need to be less than 30... I was loosing weight and was on the border at time of referral so got to below 30 and I was a non smoker! My husband who is like solid and very muscular was over bmi of 30! When we went to the appointment we were unsuccessful and didn’t meet the criteria. I was absolutely furious! My husband is healthy and not obese!
We then went down the private route... no issues with BMI!!!!
