Thoughts on IUI?

The clinic contacted us to arrange a consultation in early July, which is great, but it turns out that they only do iui, not ivf, which is much less great. I know that we're right at the beginning of the process, and that I still have to do some tests, but after that, I was hoping to go straight to ivf, as I simply don't trust iui at all. Anyone got any success stories to share? Or is it just a waste of my (precious) time? Looking for some hope here.

I would give it a try. It's less chance however it can be successful.

The downside is you can have abandoned cycles which is difficult to deal with sometimes.

I had two abandoned cycles then had an actual attempt which was successful in getting that bfp. I was amazed that it worked. I had convinced myself it wouldn't as only had one follicle.

I'm back on the waiting list for IUI again...hoping to get a bfp which will end positively.

I would rather use all the chances I have with IUI first just incase IVF was unsuccessful.

We began a cycle of IVF and only produced 1 follicle, as a result it was converted to IUI rather than just abandoning it. I am so grateful I went with me head instead of my heart because my heart was so broken and I just wanted to walk away and move on to my next cycle. However it was successful and we have a little girl as a result.

It's a hard choice, good luck whatever you decide is right for you.x

In any case you should do some tests first.

If IUI becomes appropriate choice you can proceed with it in that clinic.

If no, than there are no point in IUI at all and in that clinic in particular.

There are no problem at all to find another clinic with IVF and anything else which you`d prefer.

Thanks for the replies! Good to hear some positive news re. IUI, and I suppose it doesn't hurt to try. My main worry was about the time it would take us to get referred to another clinic, if it comes to that. Suppose I just have to cross my fingers, open my legs, and hope for the best...ha ha.

How old are you? As there's evidence for older women it's more successful to proceed straight to ivf... research was done that showed you're more likely to get a live birth. Older usually means 35+ but I will confess I can't remember the details

I'll be 35 this November, so borderline on this one. I'll make sure to ask when I visit the clinic.

Hi Tomorrow_1,

I heard from my cousin last night who has just got a BFP following IUI. It was a last-ditch attempt as she is 43 and had been give an v poor prognosis for success - but it worked!! Yay IUI! (This was after several failed IVF attempts too). Hope that helps! Xxx
