Has anyone been on Metformin?

Hey, I started Menopur yesterday after 2 weeks of buserelin but with 38 follicles they're concerned that I may develop OSHH so have put me on Metformin too. Has anyone been on this? I've heard the side effects are nasty so just wanted some stories good/bad?

Thank you xx

Thank you! I've been prescribed 1700mg but they said to start with one tablet a day (850mg) for the first couple of days to see how I go. They said to phone if I suffer with any of the serious symptoms, how long did you wait for it to settle down? Xx

That's it they get you to build it up, the first 2 weeks were the worse, and I felt it was worse when having things with high sugar, if I go out for dinner and know I'll be having dessert or alcohol I'll skip 3rd tablet.

I found that when I was on 1700mg a day that it was hard to eat wheat and gluten! tried to stick to just meat and veg because otherwise I was cripples with stomach pain, but it all depends on how your body reacts I guess. I ad to sop taking it due to a lot of weight loss when I already had a healthy body weight. good luck x

Hi BabyD. Do make sure you drink plenty of water too, considering how many follicles you have, you could develop OHSS - fingers crossed you don't. Thinking of you. Diane

Hi Diane, thank you. I've read that a high protein and high salt diet can help to prevent OHSS too, do you know how true this is? X

Hi BabyD. It is difficult to prevent OHSS, but once you have had it, your clinic will be aware and monitor you more closely to make sure it hopefully doesn't happen again. I would keep to a sensible diet without too much salt, just in case it causes other problems. Diane

Thank you. I will stick to my regular diet and just increase my fibre intake a little. As for drinks I've also seen people recommend drinking electrolyte drinks as well as water? (Sorry for so many questions just panicking) xx

Hi BabyD. I would stick to water and perhaps pineapple juice. If you start drinking electrolyte drinks you could upset your metabolism and electrolytes which you definitely don't want to do! Diane

Yes I was put on it on my last cycle but had to stop taking it I am afraid after a week. Really bad side effects including irregular heart beats. Just take it easy and be concious of what your body is telling you. Get in touch with clinic if you have concerns. Wishing you all the best.

Oh I'm sorry to hear that! What dose were you on? They've put me on 850 but want me to increase it in a few days to 1700 if I'm ok. Woken up this morning feeling achey and a bit sicky but not sure if that's the Metformin or the Menopur! X
