Does anybody know how long it takes to have your tubes removed via NHS?

I've got my referral on 10th August, that took 2 months, for a HSG but I've decided I want my tubes removed, they are just really bothering me now. Thank you in advance!

Hi there,

I have this condition too. From my understanding, once you have the okay to have the operation, it's completely dependent on the hospital waiting time, so it will vary across the country. Don't forget you'd need a pre-op assessment too (for any surgery and this is 'live' for three months, after that it expires and you need another one).

If you will be having fertility treatment after the operation, I would recommend having the operation done at the hospital where you'll be having treatment (eg IVF, if that's the case), as you'll be under the same hospital for everything then and not changing trusts and consultants (that's what I was going to have to do until I asked to be treated by the same place, which the IVF hospital are more than happy to do).

I was diagnosed with this last december at a scan, had my appointment with the consultant in Jan (ivf consultant due to 4 natural miscarriages before dec) agreed at appointment to have tubes removed as well as going for ivf, op early march and first round of ivf started end of may which resulted in chemical pregnancy, now awaiting a date for FET, which will prob be sept. The op is ok, a little sore for a couple of days and more pain from the stitches then anything. I'vd never regretted the op as waa worried I may, and so nice not to have constant pain which I was getting quite alot. Because i'm 38 they did not hang around as our funding stops for ivf at 40, and very lucky to live in an area where there is not a waiting list for ivf. My GP told me it's too high risk for ectopic so shall I save us the heartache and do it now?

I had surgery for endo and he saw that so opened my tubes for me but he doesn't think they will stay open very long.

Once your tubes were out, did the pain stop that radiates from the area? I'm presuming it's my tubes that I can feel hurting and they look swollen in the area!

I'm 26 and just don't know if it's too soon but I don't think there's any hope for us without IVF, as we've been told.

I had 4 natural pregnancies before having my tubes removed. 2 of them being ectopic, one on each side. My body naturally rejected them so my tubes were not removed at the time, however no one can confirm if it was the fluid that caused my ectopics or if the ectopics caused my fluid. I was told that the fluid was prob also the reason why my other 2 pregnancies didn't work as it can be toxic to embryos and also basically flush them out. Hard to say if I was your age if i'd carried on with my tubes or not but I knew it would prob end in ectopic again and they are very scary things to go through, 4 was enough for me. I hardly get that dull throbbing pain anyone, occassionally on ovulation but its wierd now not to have the pain as lived with it for that long that it became normal. If your tubes have just been opened then i'd be trying naturally very hard the next couple of months as have read alot of success stories about this but think theres about a 2-3month window of it working. I wish i'd had mine out sooner but it was never diagnosed till I was admitted to hospital at xmas with horreandous pain. I was convinced it was another ectopic as the pain is very similar but all tests said no. When they scanned me I couldn't believe how much fluid there was as normally you can't see a tube on a scan but mine was like a big white sausage! It can be daunting thinking that you have x amount of gos at ivf and thats it, but for me it was the right decision and hopefully at some point my decision will prove me right! xx

I too have both my tubes removed. I think I waited a few months but I am in my late 30's so I don't know if this made a difference. It's the best decision I made as if I didn't get them removed there was nothing else they could do. At least now my IVF journey continues.

I agree with staying with the same hospital/clinic for the procedure. Rest for a few days afterwards. I was a bit sore afterwards.

For me removing my tubes was the only option. I wouldn't be able to conceive naturally and would only receive IVF treatment if I got them removed. Everyone is different but I would listen to your doctor. They know best in these situations but you also have to go with what you think is best for you.

I didn't have pain and was blissfully unaware they were blocked so I can't answer about the pain.

It's a big decision so don't rush it. Make sure your 100% positive about your decision. There is no going back.

I don't want to dampen things but I did get a BFP 2 months ago but unfortunately it's not meant to be for me this time and I have a surgical miscarriage planned for next week. I did get pregnant though so there is hope for us all.
