Hydrosalpinx surgery

Hi everyone,

Had an appointment with our clinic yesterday and during my EC they found that one of my Fallopian tubes was swollen and leaking fluid in to my uterus. They did see this during my HSG but weren’t sure until they were inside what it was. So now I need to have surgery to clip the tube before we can transfer any embryos.

Feeling pretty gutted on what already seems like a long road to have more hurdles.

They also say that during the surgery if the other tube shows any signs of this they will clip that one. So could wake up with the possibility of never being able to conceive naturally.

Trying to get my head around it - has anyone else experienced this?

Xxx

Hi there. I’m sorry to hear you have been dealt another hurdle, like it’s not hard enough!

I have experienced this. Prior to my first ivf I had my right tube clipped. Then like with you at the egg collection they then thought the left looked like it also had fluid in it too. However they went ahead with the cycle which failed. They investigated further and there was indeed fluid in the other tube. They gave me the choice of either continuing with the next cycle but it would be at a lower success rate because the fluid can affect the implantation/growing of an embryo. Or having the second tube clipped, which is the option we took. Ivf has enough hurdles without starting off with a lower chance.

It was hard though, as it adds extra waiting time and in some terms I have been sterilised which when you are trying for a baby - it’s hard to get your head around that. But I just tried to look at it that it’s a means to an end and it was something that had to be done in order to help me get pregnant. Which luckily for me it did, my second cycle was a Success and I now have a 6 month old baby girl. So I’m glad I had both clipped as I probably wouldn’t be where I am now without having that done.

The operation is fairly straight forward and I was home both times later in the afternoon.

Wishing you all the best with it and if you have any other questions please message 😊 xx

Thanks for your message Star - it’s so reassuring to hear other people’s experiences and successes through this long process.

Yes it’s the “sterile” bit that I’m struggling with but you’re right, if it means we can get pregnant and make it to birth then it seems like the best option.

We’ve had a couple of miscarriages so I’m wondering if this was part of the reason. If so then it makes sense as having unexplained infertility is such a frustrating diagnosis!

Congratulations on your little girl. Blooming marvellous 💖

Yes it’s a tough one and I still remember breaking down in Tears in the car on the way home from the clinic, after being told the second tube needed doing. I remember thinking it was yet another set back and could I take anymore and more waiting, it just seemed endless.

I just tried to not think of it as a sterilisation, as even though our chances of it happening naturally were very very slim - it takes away that hope of being that miracle, But to just see it as the next step and think of the end result.

I’m sorry you’ve had miscarriages, but like you say it could be connected. So having the surgery could be worth it in the long run.

Good luck with it and fingers crossed when those embryos are put back in they will have a happy comfy home to grow in 😊 xx

Hi my love... yes another hydrosalpinx warrior here. I won’t bore you with my whole journey but be thankful they have found it before you embark on a cycle. I had one failed cycle knowing I had a hydro and guess what that cycle failed. I then had my right tube clipped away and my second cycle was successful and I now have a 5 month old baby old. Be positive... and trust that your consultants are doing the right thing as with having the leaky tube drastically reduces your chances. I know it’s soul destroying having to go through the process but it will be worth it 😘😘

I had surgery to remove my hydrosalpinx about a month ago. Surgery was fine and recovery was ok too. I actually felt a relief once it was gone and a lot of discomfort has gone too. They also removed a cyst. Luckily my other tube is ok.

First month of trying naturally and today my period arrived so no luck this month. Still hoping on a miracle though!
