My husband and I gave our ivf application in to the hospital yesterday. I just wanted to know the time line is for the ivf process. My treatment will be on the nhs and the nurse said to keep chasing the application. Would love to hear some feedback xx

Hi hun it really depends on where you are and the clinic you're going to. I'm based in the north west and travel to a clinic in the north east (4hr round trip). We saw our local fertility specialist in the Nov 2014 and started at the clinic in Dec 2015. The first cycle of IVF started in Feb 2015 which unfortunately didn't work. I'm now waiting to have my embryo transferred on my second cycle which started early May. Hope that helps xx
Thank you for your reply we were told by the nurse it can take up to 18 weeks for the application form to go through. Also did you meet up with a board beforehand to explain why you should be intilited to ivf from the nhs? My nurse was basically saying because I am 29 we may be refused and that I should explain to them that I have endromestosis. Not too sure how true that is! I am based in West London and the hospital we choose is chelsea and westminster. I am sorry to hear the first treatment didn't work for you. Hoping the next one works xxx
Hi there. From initial GP referral to our 2ww (half way through now) it's taken a year. Our initial consultation at the hospital was end of Novembet then a 'top of the list' appointment followed mid March. Started treatment in April. Will all be over by Monday. Yikes!!
It does differ everywhere but I think a year start to finish should be expected overall for NHS treatment x x x
Hi Momma bear thank you for your reply! Iv had all my tests etc done as iui hasn't worked for me and my husband and they have said that ivf will be best suited. They did say in the mean time I should still continue with my last 2 iui treatments. I hope it doesn't take a year!! It's taken since October 15 to now to be referred for ivf as they wanted to see if iui worked first. Thanks for your help. I hope you have good news!! The 2ww is the worst ever! More so than the injections 😂
our initial referral was In June 2015, we had an acceptance letter in the September for an appointment in November. After some extra investigations, bloods and consent appointment we started treatment (medication) in March and had our first embryo transfer in May, that failed but starting our frozen cycle this week which is my first cycle following the failed one! Its quick once you're in the system, but the first bit seems to vary quite a bit on the postcode lottery and waiting lists! I was told ours was pretty quick! That was NHS obviously... You can check your CCG criteria on line for your area - this will tell you age restrictions etc.
hiya hun, so I was referred by the doctor last June, completed my application back at the hospital in October and had our first consent signing appointment with the nurse in May. We will be starting my treatment next week. I think it depends on your hospital, but I think its fair to say overall it will be about a year x
Thank you for your reply. I guess i will be waiting ages then! In the mean time we are still trying iui but the hospital wanted us to put our application in. They said it takes up to 18 weeks for it to be processed and to keep chasing it up! We're based in West London. X
Hi NDE1987 - sorry, I'm a bit slow to the plate on this post, but read back through your story after a post popped up from you a few hours ago.
I have, two weeks ago, put in my referral for IVF through NHS too, in south-west London. Like you, I am now just waiting for a letter with an appointment date! I've also been told 18 weeks, which is shorter than we initially thought, so while we were ecstatic at first, now I just want it to hurry up!!
Yes, two days ago! We have our appointment on the 28th of this month!!
Sorry for the delayed reply, it has been a crazy week. SO glad it's Friday...
We have gone for Create Fertility in Wimbledon. They do quite a different type of IVF, using a far more natural approach - less stress on the body, fewer injections etc. It seems really good to us anyway, so are very keen to get started. They said after the first appointment we can basically start on the very next cycle, so hopefully in just over a month we will be going for it!
That's so good! Congratulations!! I received my letter today and our first appointment isn't until September! But that's so good that yours is this month! Have you been told what they will be doing etc? If mine is in September I hope mine can start october/November x
Yeah they've said it'll be a "complete scan" with Doppler and 3D effect, to check everything, including blood flow to everywhere, pelvic pathology, tubes, follicles, reserve, lining etc (I'm reading this off my notes from their open day which I went to last week). Then apparently they have an appointment to go over consent, give a timetable, teach you how to inject, and this can be on the same day if time. Then you just call them up on cd1 and start taking injections. Then three scans between cd5-10, egg collection day 10-15, fertilization after, then fingers crossed bfp! Like I said, this is less intense than most cycles with fewer drugs, so probably a different timeline than others experience, but the clinician told me this outline is what to expect.
Ah wow!! Hopefully you will start treatment in August/September! The injections are not hard or scary I used them for my iui and you get used to it. Fingers crossed for you!
Thanks! I'm a teacher so as soon as summer holidays hit next week I'm kicking my cardio up a notch - gotta get my body healthy to prepare! Best of luck to you too xxx
Hi! Thank you for your reply. I had called my hospital who referred me a week and a half ago and they said they have sent my documents to the panel who approve funding. I said I should hear back in about a week but still not heard anything!! My husband and I selected chelsea and westminster hospital for our ivf. Which one have chosen? The nurse did say to me that it could take up to 18 weeks for the application to be processed, but like you I am thinking hurry up!!! Have you tried any other treatment prior to this? X
