Hi not sure if questions but I’m not aware of any ivf complications just success or not
Only real complication is ohss, which I had mildly and was pretty awful. Though I get really irrational and don’t believe them at the time they are cautious to prevent it. They do regular blood Tests and keep an eye in your follicle count etc
The only complication that I have had is OHSS which they classified as moderate and put down to pregnancy as apparently the flare ups are aggravated by a positive test. I didn’t have any symptoms of this until a week after my embryo transfer so didn’t think it was that and ended up going to the hospital where I tested positive and they scanned me and my ovaries were massive. I am now just over 8 weeks and still under monitoring at the hospital and they are still twice the size, so not sure when they are going to go down!
Ok,thanks.do you have any symptoms while taking injections?what kind of side effects do you have?
Hi Suki. I hope you don't mind me jumping on the post. Can I ask what symptoms you are experiencing for the OHSS whilst pregnant? I was told I was at risk due to the amount of eggs collected, I was so rough after it and thought there was no way transfer would go ahead. They scanned me and said all was fine and admittedly I was feeling better on day of transfer. I'm just wondering if some of my current pregnancy symptoms are maybe the OHSS that may have developed once pregnant.
Thank you for any advice xxx
Hello 👋 not at all! So I literally went from feeling fine, to been so bloated, to the point where I felt like you’ve just eaten the most massive Christmas dinner, but like 4x over. I put it down to just eating too much one day, but then 3 days later it was still the same and getting bigger (it was like solid bloating) and then started to get abdominal pain. I have also been drinking loads of water throughout the whole process but my urine was quite dark and I wasn’t going to the toilet as much. When they scanned me they said I was retaining lots of fluid in my pelvic area which they were worried would start to impact my organs. 4.5wks later and I still have OHSS according to my scans but I think I’ve just got used to the symptoms. I’ve also lost a few lbs because I can’t fit that much food in, although if I am lucky enough the pregnancy continues 🤞🏼 Then that will change 🤣. The only silver lining is that I have been given scans pretty much every week and a half to monitor my ovaries, so it’s been a relief to see the embryo develop and see the heartbeat and I’ve got two more scans before my 12 weeks which I am finding really comforting, providing all goes well xx
Hi there,
Medication - during stims the only thing you need to face is being able to inject yourself which can be uncomfortable but since you do it everyday you get used to it quite quickly. I know some friends who have their husband inject them and that seems to make it easier. I did get a few days of headaches and moodiness but this all went away after a week!
Egg collection - probably the easiest out of everything for me as I was under sedation. So I was knocked out for the procedure. Afterwards, you do need a week off as I had abdominal cramping especially due to trapped wind!
Embryo transfer - this was probably the most uncomfortable for me. The procedure only takes 10 min though! It feels similar to a papsmear!!
I was lucky to not experience OHSS. The hardest part about this whole journey is when you’re waiting for the daily call from the embryologist after the egg collection. Every night you wonder if your embryos have survived a night. Then again after the embryo transfer, it’s the tww. To be honest, these parts of the journey were the worst for me.
Good luck on your journey!! X
Hey, there is an increased chance of an ectopic pregnancy. Which I experienced with my first ivf cycle. So any odd signs like pain which is out of the norm, please do not ignore. Good luck on your journey!
Thanks for your kind support. What things do I need to cautious about at the time ivf,if possible please let me know guys.
Hi Trishabowmik, apart from a few IVF complications like OHSS and some setbacks, the different IVF stages are pretty complications free. You might get some mild symptoms whilst on some medication e.g bloating, cramping, discomfort due to size of follicles, headaches etc but they are very mild. Some people suffer no symptoms at all.
The egg collection process is a breeze as you will be sedated. Afterwards, you may suffer trapped wind and constipation but this goes away within a few days. Some women have some light spotting but I have never had this.
When you start using the progesterone tablets you may get symptoms similar to pre-menstrual cramps but again these are mild.
I hope this helps and all the best with your first IVF cycle. Try not to worry about the physical discomfort of IVF- rather focus on preparing yourself mentally for the emotional ups and downs as that is the much harder part of IVF.
Hopefully yours will go swimmingly with no issues. 🌈
Private because of my personal circumstances but I have used NHS clinics. They are better value for money.
