Hey ladies.

DHEA, what are your thoughts and experiences on using this?

Did your consultants recommend it and what were the general reasons?

Where were the best places to buy it from?

Thank you x

Hey babe I was told to take them and had no problems with them. I took them for 3 months. I got mine from my clinic but they said I could order online though and recommended a site in the states x

Good luck

Thank you...did the clinic notice a difference with your eggs/response after taking them?

I know you've ended up with a BFP :-)

I ended up with 11 eggs hun x don't know if that's good or bad. There's no harm in taking them as they are just improving quality and maturity of your eggs x

Ok thank you..I just wasn't sure whether I'd need to speak with the consultant before taking anything like that or not...

Hi Hollibob

I am currently taking a DHEA supplement from Zita West! I got it from Amazon! My consultant never mentioned to take it, but I read the book by Zita West and she advised it for your egg quality. If you haven't read the book I do advise it as I have such a better understanding now. I will try anything, it can't do any harm! I've only just been accepted for IVF after what feels like a lifetime so I've still got a fair way to go but I thought I should start preparing my body ready for it :D

Xx

Hey.

Which one are you taking?

As you say, try anything to see if it helps/works...the difficulty is that every doctor you speak with has a different opinion!

I have got one of her books that I refer to and her relaxation CDs too.

Being accepted is great :-)

It's the DHEA in a grey box with a picture of a woman on the front. It's the Zita West one. If you search Zita West on Amazon you will find it, it's a twice a day capsule. I was taking her Vitafem capsules too but they didn't agree with me so stuck to the folic acid from my GP and some bog standard multivitamins! :D I've got me and my fiancé on the smoothies too full of goodness! Ha ha! He loves them! I'm going to get the relaxation CD's ready for when we start the IVF! Have you tried acupuncture and reflexology too? I haven't but I'm debating on it! x

Thanks for that :-) I'll check it out.

I've had acupuncture and reflexology in the past. Love them both. It can work out expensive, but it's worth it to rebalance the body to prepare you for IVF and I liked having it during IVF. Definitely have a look :-)

in reply toHollibob

I will definitely look into it! I bought more vitamins yesterday too :-) Vitamin D. I'll be glowing with all the things I'm taking! Ha!

Wishing you lots of luck x

I was reading up about this but I have pcos so it's not recommended for people that suffer with this.

That's a shame..I think it might be the same for endo, but saying that either is clomid or some IVF drugs!

Hey ladies, I've looked into this too and spoke to my consultant about these supplements. He was not a fan. Before you jump please may I share a word of caution, there can be pretty heavy side effects so you need to be aware of this before you take them. Also you need about 3 months on these before your treatment to get any effects. Xxx

Thanks..there is always conflicting thoughts from consultants with new ideas, but it's interesting to hear...

My consultant recommended them- I have low ovarian reserve and the eggs we were getting were no good. He said it is unproven but suggestion is that it might boost quantity and quality. To be honest I would have taken dried horse poo if if needed to!

I got them on google from a vitamin company in Switzerland. Took them for a couple of months before my cycle and had no side effects. Got 3 eggs and 2 fertilised- that's the best result I've ever had- and I'm currently 8 weeks pregnant. Can't prove it made the difference but it might have. I would feel uncomfortable doing it without your doctor signing off though. Good luck x

Fab news..congrats :-)

I'm going to email the clinic to see what they think, but my consultant poo hoo's a lot of stuff like that including NK cells, so if he says no then I'm bit sure what to do...

I take it you didn't take them during the IVF cycle?

JessR in reply toHollibob

No, I took them for 2 months leading up to it and stopped when my cycle started.

Hello, I had to take these for 3 months prior to Ivf. They made me gain some weight and I did have a bit of hair thinning but I truly believe they helped with my egg quality. I had a really low AMH and the consultant was not positive he would get any eggs so the ones he got needed to be good quality. In the end I had 7 eggs (but only from 1 overy) 5 fertilised and on the day of transfer I had a blastocyst and lesser developed embie. These are currently my 9 week old twins. I think the jury is still out with lots if Ivf things but I would have given anything a go last year. I also had the endo scratch prior to Ivf and embroglu to glue my embies back in on the day. Good luck with it all Hun xxx

I am a little bit confused

DHEA is the same with DHA from zitawest? Xxx

Hollibob profile image
Hollibob in reply toFrussy

I’m not sure. It’s probably worth posting a new question on the forum as mine was three years ago :-)

Frussy no dhea is a mild steroid your body naturally produces dhea but as we age in decreases, dha is from omega 3 fish oil.

Hi Hollibob, I'm halfway through the book "It starts with the egg" and the author def recommends Ubiquinol and DHEA. I've taken it - probably not long enough though - and my cycles have been getting worse actually since I've started on he supplements. Can't say for sure it's them but it's made me a bit more cautious. I posted a question into the Fb group following the book yesterday and a few of the ladies on there said they wouldn't take it if they hadn't had their DHEA level tested before. I didn't get tested because no one would test me. DHEA is a hormone and I guess you can have too much of a good thing. Still undecided about it and prob won't take it for my next cycle. X

Thank you

I am 35 so not sure if I need this hormone

I did read a little bit on Google and seems to be good but just if is a need for and I didn't test for this hormone

I need something too thick my lining

Because I will go again on my next cycle I am really scared that I will not have good quality eggs and that is scary me the most
