Hi can anyone recommend using dhea to help poor egg reserve? Heard someone say it can affect your ovulation is this correct? Any advice would be appreciated x
Dhea: Hi can anyone recommend using... - Fertility Network UK
Dhea
Hi Katya38, I took a DHEA supplement for my IVF cycle and they collected 15 eggs from my one ovary and 12 fertilised and I ended up with 8 great quality embryo's so we have 7 frozen ones. Unfortunately our first fresh ET didn't work but the fact we had 7 that good to freeze was amazing so I think the DHEA was worth taking 😊
Good luck xx
Hey katya, I'm taking DHEA in preparation for my next cycle. When we spoke to the embryologist he was quite pessimistic about my eggs. I asked about taking DHEA and he said "I knew were gonna ask that"! He said he couldn't prescribe it but had seen some good results first hand so if I wanted to try then he had no objections...though I must say the the research out there was in women of 37 and under....so that counts me out obviously being almost 39!😂 my periods have been longer, 33 days so far. I've not checked ovulation cause I'm just thinking what's the point so can't say for sure but I'm assuming it does! Think anything worth a try! Good luck my lovely!!xx
Hi I've used it. My FSH was 10 and my LH was 6 had test again after 6 weeks use and came down to 8 and 3.5 so it impacted my hormone levels positively. The only problem I had was my ovulation was knocked out of sync I was always extremely regular but I struggled to find my peak after use. After 7 months I'm back to normal but now can't get pregnant ( I had 5 early losses last year) I am now having a test for NK killer cells this month with the support of my NHS consultant to try and find out is that's the answer, I have low AMH so took dhea to try and improve egg quality. Best of luck to you though I'm not saying don't take it this was just my experience! I've heard lots of positives X
Hi Katya38. Regarding treatment with Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) it is still in its early days. Women with reduced ovarian reserve have been given 75 mgs of this drug a day, in divided doses of 25 mgs 3 times a day for around 2 months, been found to respond better to stimulation during IVF. Some consultants will offer treatment with DHEA. You would need to have another chat with your consultant to see if he/she agrees with it and also regarding the potential side effects, which are similar to using steroids.
A 41 yr old lady I spoke with recently who has had treatment with DHEA after several failed attempts at IVF/ICSI, has just had 8 eggs retrieved after apparently only ever managing 2-3 per cycle. She used it for 2 months. Hope this helps a little, and I do wish you both well with whatever you decide. Diane
Thank you well I only got 1 egg in my last cycle so my count obviously very low. We are planning a donor egg cycle nov/Dec but wanted to try and take this in the meantime. We have follow up hospital appointment in November from our failed icsi cycle. Do you think I should wait and ask consultant before taking? X
It also worked for me - we collected a lot more after using it. I say why not give it a try?!
I'm hoping it works.at last IVF no eggs were collected-I've been taking it for around 3 months & am hoping to try another IVF cycle in October if we can persuade the clinic to do it so I'll have been taking it a bit longer than the recommended but at 44, need all the help I can get x
