I've seen a few posts recently that mention DHEA....and I was just wondering what it is and what it's used for? Is it something I should try while TTC? Will it help alongside IVF?
DHEA....: I've seen a few posts... - Fertility Network UK
DHEA....
Look at some of my previous posts. It tends to be for women with low Amh and my clinic recommend it to improve egg quality .so far it seems to work for me xx
There are downsides, so definitely look into these and discuss with your clinic before you do xx
Hi beauty1984. There is also the potential of trying some treatment prior to IVF, by using the drug called Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) which is still in its early days. Women with reduced ovarian reserve who have been given 75 mgs of this drug a day, in divided doses of 25 mgs 3 times a day for around 2 months, been found to respond better to stimulation during IVF. Some consultants will offer treatment with DHEA. You would need to ask and discuss this thoroughly with your consultant to see if he/she agrees with it and also regarding the potential side effects, which are similar to using steroids. A 41 year old lady I spoke to a few months ago, who has had treatment with DHEA after several failed attempts at IVF/ICSI, has recently had 8 eggs retrieved after apparently only ever managing 2-3 per cycle. She used it for 2 months. Hope that helps. Diane
Thanks Diane, I think I will mention it at my next appointment and see what my doctor says. I think at the moment my ovarian reserve is ok so might not need it 😊 xx
Hi beauty1984. That's good to know. I do have a list of questions I could email you if you want. Too long to add here, but if you email me in confidence to support@fertilitynetworkuk.org I will send them to you. There just maybe one or two you hadn't thought of asking. Good luck! Diane
