Egg donor process what happens?

Hi

I am possibly going to try a cycle using donor eggs just would love to know how it works and what meds I would take.

It's early stages but trying to prepare

Myself good thing is I won't be riddled with lots of drugs more unfortunate for the donor 😬

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Tamtam

In brief:We used a clinic abroad, flew over for an initial visit discussed options, had a dummy transfer and ultrasound scan. Took all blood test results with us. Saw the nurse to take all our physical characteristics etc. Partner left a sample and we came home. When donor identified (frozen eggs) I started the pill with my next period, told when to stop it then began meds with that period (after a scan) down regged with cetrotide, oestrogen was progynova and patches, scan and bloods after about 10 days if all ok given go ahead for transfer about 7-10 days later. Started progesterone pessaries/injections 5 days before transfer. Flew out for second visit for embryo transfer. All scans and blood tests done here in UK, GP wrote private prescriptions. All donors are completely anonymous.

It was successful at first attempt but I miscarried 😢. Will be having second FET next year.

Hope that helps

We are going down this route as well NHS after first NHS failed cycle with my eggs. Its all been confirmed NHS will fund but waiting for letter to say we are on the list. We have been told it will be March/May time that we start. But dont know whats involved all I know is we both have to have counselling and my cycle is matched up with the donors cycle up to egg collection. I also get guaranteed 4 eggs from the donor. x

Hi I am currently doing a DE cycle, my first one. I have to do daily injections of Buserelin, or Suprecur as it is also known, to down regulate. Then I will start some tablets which I think are called progynova then it will be the pessaries. That's everything that I think I will need.

Good luck with it all!

Hey

Thanks for the replies I did think it had to be much less drugs than an IVF cycle which is fine by me. Are you going abroad? Or do you live abroad?

I've just had transfer yesterday from DE. It was the same process as the other ladies described, you don't have the stimulation drugs you would have when your eggs are being used. I felt a bit detached from it all as you're not allowed to know how many follicles the donor has, unless it is under the agreed number and they might have to cancel.

Once they had fertilised I felt they were "ours". The clinic reckon we have 40% chance of success using donor eggs. So let's hope we're lucky this time.

PM if you want to ask questions.
