So my partner and I were referred last year for donor insemination. Last week we received a letter saying we need to have some routine tests, progesterone, s.t.i check. All routine stuff. The letter states that once we have had these tests done we will get our initial appointment at the fertility clinic.
Does anyone know what else happens before the insemination treatment begins?
We are extremely excited but also quite nervous because we don't know what to expect.
Any information would be extremely welcomed
Thanks!!

Hiya I'm sure others will give a better answer but we met with a coordinator who explained the treatment plans - inc. realistic timeframe for donor (6 months for donor eggs at my clinic). Asked if had any questions and went through the paperwork. They then kept me updated with emails. Best wishes x
Thank you! Do you know what happens step by step. As in, How do we chose the donor. How long is the wait once you've chosen the donor etc? What is the process from start to finish, from the initial consultation to the start of insemination treatment. I hope we don't have to wait too long!!
You have not said if you are having treatment in here or abroad? I had treatment privately in Southampton (as was too old for nhs treatment). You don't choose the donor, they are matched to you based on some of your preferences. The coordinator asks if you want them to have the same hair, eye colour, blood group. They match ethnic group. I was asked to send pictures of me & OH and list hobbies. My clinic was able to estimate 6 months typical wait. Guess what, it was! Put on donor list February and now on tww. My coordinator explained that they match you to the right person and it's not a matter of just getting to the top of the list. They asked that I didn't pester them about it. I could ask questions about treatment but not to keep asking how long I'd have to wait or where I'd got to on the list. I'd had treatment with them before trying with my own eggs so knew they were professional. Hope that helps x
Sorry, we are having treatment in the UK. In Edinburgh on the NHS. I guess all areas have different waiting times depending on the number of people wanting treatment and also the number of donors available. I had it in my head that once we got our appointment through we would begin the Insemination treatment. I didn't realise there was another 6 month wait for the donor sperm it will be worth the wait though! Let me know how you get on
Hiya I just saw your response. Yes, each clinic has their own waiting list depending on volunteer donors. I think I was pretty lucky with 6mths but this is why many people choose to go abroad, no waiting list in Spain/Greece etc. Good luck to you both. Btw, I have a positive result and hoping it continues.
