Hello all ,

I am looking for advice. I am due to start my ivf treatment on day 2 of my next cycle. I am wondering what is the best time to administer the Buserelin injections and any advice of side effects please.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Hello Piglet123,

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking of doing my injections everyday after 5pm because that is the time I am always home from work and hopefully will not be rushing around. Do you know if it is better done at a specific time? Sorry for asking you more questions. Not very easy taking to be who have not faced fertility issues.

Hello. Ask as many questions as you like. I will try to answer them as best as possible. I would suggest that you have a set time, so If getting home 5pm is regular then do it then. Just so you have a routine. Helped me stay sane that I had some control if that makes sense. when you start the over stim drugs I would check with your clinic nurses how far apart they should be. I don't know that answer I'm afraid. Xxx

Thank you kindly. You have been a great help. This is our first cycle of ivf. I am trying to remain as postive as I can and hope for the very best. I am wising you all the luck in this world Piglet123.

Hi, I decided on 10pm every night as I'm no good with needles so knew I wouldn't have time in morning. In hindsight 5pm would be better because if you go out for meals etc there's no curfew. I've found leaving a friends house earlier and nights out makes people suspicious. I haven't found any side effects from buserelin, just tired and headaches but if you drink the recommended 2litres a day they were fine. Remember to swap sides every few days if you're injecting in stomach. Good luck, it will fly by honestly x

Hello finger crossed

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I am really grateful. Not always easy to remain postive so it's nice to have all you ladies to chat to.

Hi all! Nurses told me to do them in the evening between 6-8 pm. I think it is saying the same in the leaflet. Goodluck to you all! I have been through this once (unsuccesfull) and I am going to start again this month.

Hi, I used to mine at 10pm and would take them with me if I went out, which was rarely. I did the stims at the same time. It was the time I would definitely be home (unless I went out) because some days i had to work late.

The main side effect I had was headaches but I agree with drinking plenty of fluids, that seemed to help. I used to keep water by my bed as I used to wake up thirsty.

Good luck x

Thank you all ladies for replying. I am going to keep your posted on how I get on. Good luck to everyone xxxx.

I was told to do them by my clinic in the evening between 6-9 but to keep the same time every evening, with half an hour allowed either side. I did the stims at the same time when I started these. It may depend on what time of day they will do the ec, I'm not sure. I know that the trigger shot had to be taken at a very exact time in the evening, 36 hours before ec and my ec was early in the morning. I would advise asking your clinic to be sure - just pick up the phone and ask to reassure yourself. It's too easy to get tied up in knots over these injections and whether you're doing it correctly or not, so I would just ask one of the nurses to be sure. They should be giving you some instruction leaflets and a calendar anyway.

As for side effects, the headaches for the first couple of days were awful but if you drink 2 - 3 L of water a day it helps a lot. You may also get a little stinging and rash at injection site but it goes away quickly. It's all very strange at first doing the injections but remember what the end goal is and that will keep you going!

Because I wanted my EC in the morning I did my injections in the morning which meant no lie ins whatsoever. When I was doing down reg and stimms I did them one after another. This then meant I did my trigger in the evening ready for collection at 8am. I did this so I could get back to work 24 hours laters when sedation was out of my system.

Good Luck x
