Endometrial scratch?

I'm trying to decide if I should have the scratch for our next IVF round using our blastocyst in a FET cycle...

What experiences have you had?

Thanks :-)

Hi Hollibob. This is often offered to women who have had two unsuccessful IVF cycles, but can be offered during any cycle, depending upon your consultant’s recommendations. New research and evidence suggests that scratching the uterine lining causes a ‘repair reaction’ which may increase embryo implantation rates. More research is underway to understand exactly how this works. It is usually done on day 21 of a treatment cycle, but if your periods are irregular, your consultant will advise on the best time for the procedure to be carried out. You must make sure that you have protected sex for one month prior to the treatment, to ensure that you are not pregnant. The procedure is not painful, but you may experience a little discomfort. It is much the same as having embryo transfer, and is often followed by slight bleeding afterwards. You will most probably be prescribed a course of antibiotics to take afterwards, to ensure you don’t get any infection. It is quite safe to take some paracetamol, should you feel any discomfort afterwards. I’m sure you will be fine if you do decide to go ahead with it, and of course I do wish you well for your next cycle. Diane.

Hi Diane,

Would it be worth me asking for this or will they only offer it you if they think you may need it, xxx

Hi addie103. Sorry for the late reply - only here Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Of course speak to your consultant about it. He/she knows you best and will give you an honest opinion. If you want - and I haven't already done so, I do have a list of questions I can email you. Too long to add here. However, my emails are confidential. dianearnold@infertilitynetworkuk.com Good luck! Diane

Thanks Diane.

I've decided to have it done...

They've only given me tablets to take an hour before the scratch time and nothing to take afterwards?

Hi. Only just read this, as I am off until Friday 4th September. Anyhow, just check about whether you need any antibiotic cover for afterwards - and good luck! Diane

I would recommend the endo scratch. I got a BFP with it from a frozen cycle but unfortunately I misscarries at 6 weeks. Good luck :)

I have had it twice being objective there is research to say it helps but I think the reason I had it was more about me saying I am trying anything I can which made me feel better and increased my hope for the cycle so it's more about the psychological impact for me. This is the same reason why I had the glue and follow all the other advice.

You just have to do what your happy with. At the end of the day I think luck plays a major part in ivf.

Good luck xxx

I decided to have the scratch and glue glue as I wanted to try and increase my chances and change something in my cycle. My meds were also increased to 300 ml. Second cycle failed stuck in the dreaded two week wait at the moment on 3rd cycle. Guess I will find out soon if it works.

Hi kirdrew . Did u done anything extra par from glue and endo scratch ? Like diet or acupuncture ? Is this 3rd cycle u have is in the same clinic? How many eggs they collect after increase your meds ?did u have any freeze one ? Sorry for all those questions but after my first unsuccessful cycle on first appointment with doctor she told us not to worry because this time will happen . I know we all different and meds reacting different on all of us ... I'm sorry that is your 3rd cycle 😔 that the previous one didn't work is such a roller coaster 😔😔

I always detox before my ivf cycles I use jason Vale ' s 7 day detox. Still at the same clinic as cycles are NHS. Two cycles resulted in the same about of eggs 12. One cycle was 2 25 ml the other 300 ml. Third cycle 300 ml 16 eggs. On the first two cycles 3 eggs were blastocyst. Both those cycles only had one transferred as advised.

Third cycle 7 survived by 5th day two one early blastocyst one modula transferred other eggs taken to day 6 three blastocyst frozen.

Concern that medication increase this time may of affected the quality of my eggs but previous cycles were really good blastocyst and resulted in nothing. as I have been told so often when it is your time then the baby will come.

Good luck xxxxx
