Hi all its my first time on here. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 22 months and so far have had no success. We're both reasonabley healthy and don't smoke or drink. We went to see our GP last month who who didn't seem at all concerned. He did a blood test which confirmed that I had ovulated and my husband did a semen analysis. The results came back yesterday and they were all fine. He's got a higher than average sperm count and the doctor actually commented that he hadn't seen such perfect results for years. Whilst I'm thrilled that there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with us I'm also very confused. Why haven't we conceived yet if everything is working like it should be? GP is writing us a letter referring us to a specialist but he said it's likely to be December at the earliest before we get an appointment. Has anyone else found themselves in a similar situation? I'm feeling so frustrated with everything

Feeling confused.....
Hello Dougy88, my hubby and I are in the same position. We've been trying for a little over 2 years and have unexplained infertility so I understand how difficult it is. It is often a relief that the doctors can't find anything 'wrong' but at the same time it's very frustrating as you know something must be!
As well as the tests you've had, I also had an internal scan (to check eveything looks ok), some blood tests to check my ovarian reserve (AMH) and an HSG where they insert dye into your Fallopian tubes to check they are clear (it's much like having a smear test). I think you will be given the same tests once your referral comes through.
Best of luck with your journey x
Hi welcome to this site hope you find it helpful and ,a great source of support.
I'm sorry to hear that you have been struggling to conceive. At least here we know how that feels and, hopefully you won't feel so alone with your feelings.
I've been trying for 4 years now and until May it was unexplained infertility. To cut a long story a fibroid was found in the lining of my uterus, preventing any potential embryos from implanting ,and has been the reason for our infertility. I'm having an operation this Monday to have it removed and hopefully will be able to conceive 😍 I know how frustrating and upsetting it is not to have clear answers for a delay in conceiving 😔
Regarding your appointment sometimes Drs refer you they tell you the longest time period for waiting. I think it's covering themselves. I would tho advise you to check the hospital fertility clinic to make sure they receive the referral. The reason I say that is our now ex clinic (discharged last year) lost our referral and it made it very stressful for us both. I hate to see someone else go through that experience.( our waiting time was 3 months from referral to first appointment ,had some tests, then saw a consultant 2 months after first appointment. I don't know if that helps) You could always ask to go a cancelation list for your appointment. People do cancel appointments so it's worth a try 😊 You will need to be seen together to discuss and agree a treatment plan 😃 First appointment will be with a specialist nurse who will tell what treatment options are available to you and if you fit the criteria for funding 😊 Also as hopeful1982 says the nurse will arrange other tests. Such a ultrasound to check your ovaries (to make sure all is ok and normal), you will also need to an hsg to have your Fallopian tubes looked at to make sure there are no blocks and they will look at your uterus and make sure all is normal. Then you will see a consultant after these tests are done and will arrange a treatment plan 😀 For unexplained ivf is the recommended treatment for unexplained infertility. I know it can be quite hard to take in 😔 It can be quite daunting to attend a fertility clinic but it is a step towards having your much wanted baby. You'll be in the safe hands of the experts ☺️Would recommend you bring a note pad to your appointment as sometimes there can be a lot of information to take in and it's so easy to forget stuff😊 Also write down a list of any questions you want to ask this ,is your chance to get all the information you want 😀
Good luck 🍀 with everything, I hope it goes well. Here if you need a chat ❤️ X
Hello dougy88 and welcome. Me and my husband are in the same position as yourselves with the 'unexplained fertility' we are also at the start of out journey. We have had all the tests and scans etc just waiting to go back to the consultant now to see what is next. I agree with the others I think they give you the longest wait time. We got referred and two week later had our first meeting and all tests done within a 3 week window after that.Just waiting for the follow up now but it's only been a week so going to give it another week then phone. I suppose some of it depends on area/which hospital etc. good luck and keep coming back the ladies on here have so much advice and experience it's great xxx
Hi unexplained here also 4.5 years we've been trying, will be starting fet cycle next month. If you tell people be prepared for advice on what you're doing wrong according to others and comments like it'll happen or relax etc
I agree with the others the hospital always tell you the longest wait and it's definitely worth chasing them. Good luck xx
Hello ladies. Just wanted to say a big thank you all and especially to Dougy88 Jess1981 and Hopeful1982 for all of the lovely advice. We are just starting our journey too after 21 months of trying and your advice is both fabulous and refreshing. We have discovered that no one likes to talk about this issue and there is very little quality information out there. This combined with the unfortunate circumstances that our doctors practice is unbelievably busy to book any non- emergency appointments such as blood tests (3 month waiting list!) Makes it a very stressful and emotional journey indeed. I got to the point where I thought that I am a very level headed calm person when infact i had a bit of a melt down in the surgery when trying to reschedule a blood test.... tears and sobs at the receptionist! Got given a new blood test appointment in this month's cycle though so it must have worked! It made me feel very silly but made me come here to look for extra advice- which I am so glad I did! So a big fat thank you to you all and lots of love and luck to you on your journeys. Xxxxxxx
