Me and my partner have just been told we need icsi. As he has a low sperm count and I have endometriosis. Bit of a blow!! Any advice would be welcome. And not sure when all this will happen??
New to ivf!! : Me and my partner have... - Fertility Network UK
New to ivf!!
Hi there, Im in the exact same situation as you, we were told this 2 weeks ago, and are still in shock. I have to have a HSG before we can move on the NHS, have you already had this done? We don't even know if ICSI is something we want to do as don't know much about this or IVF just what we've seen on the internet. I have my HSG next week and they have said we should be seen within 18 weeks for a consultation as there is no waiting list at the moment, can you ask your doctor if there is a waiting list approx times? xx
Hi amie1, welcome to this site! It's very helpful for all those questions you can't find the answer to on line & for a bit of support Basically the question you're asking is all I wanted to know when we first found out we needed icsi, I was desperately trying to find out how long we would have to wait anywhere I could! The annoying answer is that everywhere and everyone is different, but here is my time line to help give you an idea (my husband has low sperm but I have no problems) :
Nov 2014 - told by gp after 2yrs of trying that after sperm analysis & blood tests for me we needed icsi & he would be referring us
Jan 2015 - saw registrar under fertility consultant who asked a load of questions & put my husband on Wellman tablets & said I would need a Hycosy scan
April 2015 - had Hycosy scan, all ok. Also had amh blood test that day (to check my egg reserves) got results of scan from fertility consultant straight after, got amh results a few weeks later (all fine)
May 2015 - letter through saying we were eligible for NHS ivf/icsi and paperwork to choose our clinic
End of May 2015 - ivf/icsi clinic appointment date through
July 2015 - first appointment with consultant & nurse at clinic, am now waiting for call from nurse to tell me my treatment should start (should start within the next few weeks)
On paper this all might seem like a while but honestly it all seems to have moved at the right pace for us. We've always had a date to look to throughout this process and have been kept informed. We are in Kent but I know most areas differ from each other. We will basically be starting our treatment well within a year of me first going to the gp. Good luck with your treatment & don't be afraid to ring your gp/consultants Secretary/clinic to ask questions and get dates, I did and they were always nothing but friendly and helpful, they're obviously used to it! And check this website for info, it's definitely got my head round how random this whole process is! Keep us posted xx
Hello and welcome, I am in a similar position to you at the very start of this journey. I have found this site great for support and reading through the different posts at all the various stages and how people are feeling. There are lots of positive posts with happy outcomes. I look at each appointment or test a step closer in achieving our dream xxx
Thank you all for your reply it does help knowing there others in a similar position. Our referral has just been put in from my gynecologist ti the fetility specialist so I'm really hoping it won't take ages. I just a bit worried about the hormone injections. I'm already hormonal with my endo. So who knows what il be like with those. Good luck with all your journeys x
Rosy what's HSG?
Hi Amie1. Just wishing you well with all of this, and I do hope that you don’t have to wait too long before getting started. Diane
Thank you Diane. It's nice to be able to access support.
Hysterosalpingogram where they inject dye into you under x ray, (checking fallopian tubes) they said I would need to have it done before we could get ICSI on NHS even though we have to have ICSI because of my husbands sperm, not looking forward to it and wonder if its a bit pointless having radiation when not needed but at least it will get things moving xx
Oh I see. Yeah I did when I had my surgery for endo. My left fallopian tube was removed but he left my ovary for now. And unattached my right ovary and put dye through and said it seems in good condition. I suppose it's good to know what state there in. Better to have all the info I suppose. Hope that goes well for you!! X
