Hi eightiesfun. Unfortunately, there is no magic cure for sperm agglutination. Depending on what might have caused his sperm to stick together, a course of antibiotics are sometimes prescribed. A short course of steroids too is occasionally prescribed. If the condition continues, then you may have to have some form of infertility treatment such as artificial insemination, when his sperm would be washed to separate them beforehand. If they are still unable to swim properly, then you may be recommended to have IVF or ICSI treatment. Meanwhile the following can be of help.

Caffeine, along with alcohol consumption, has also been linked with problems with sperm count and sperm motility which is the sperms ability to swim in the seminal fluid. Sources of caffeine that should be avoided include coffee, tea, some cola based soft drinks and chocolate.

A diet high in selenium and zinc will help to produce good quality sperm as zinc is an important component in building sperm. Good sources of zinc include dairy products, nuts – especially Brazil nuts and seeds. Vitamins C and E are also known for their benefits as vitamin E is thought to help sperm to be more potent. Vitamin C is known for its protective qualities at preventing the DNA in sperm from becoming damaged. Vitamin E is found in avocados, sweet potatoes, sprouts and tomatoes. Good sources of vitamin C are kiwis, strawberries, oranges and broccoli.

Kind regards Diane

Hi Diane,

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply to my question. I think my partner is finding it hard to accept the news. It is great to hear that there are things he can be doing to help the situation and that all is not lost.

Thanks again,

Eighties fun.
