My wife and i have been accepted for ivf. We recently sent the forms off and are waiting reply to go to the specialist clinic for more of the blood n seamen samples. There are no problems with my wife. It is my low sperm count that is the cause. Once we have had these tests how long does the procedure take? Thankyou

Once you've been accepted for ivf how long does take to complete once we have had all good tests done at fertility clinic? Thanks
Hi gazw82.
Unfortunately, there is no easy answer. There are so many variables, NHS/private, which clinic you are with and how many tests they wish to undertake before treatment.
Wish you both all the best and hope you don't have too long to wait.
Have you tried calling the clinic, as they may be able to give you a rough timescale.
Thankyou for your reply. I wil call the clinic about time scales. Thanks again
Hi gazw82. Hopefully, you should receive an appointment within 6 weeks of the request being made. You may have to have a repeat of the semen analysis 2 months after the first one, just to be sure. It is 2 months wait, as it takes about 72 days for sperm to mature, so in order to get a good specimen you have to wait this length of time. You might like to try taking a multivitamin tablet, and also some zinc tablets and selenium. This has sometimes improved sperm count and quality, so is worth a try. Usual rules of no smoking and no alcohol also apply if needed. Keep everything nice and cool, as a cool body is best for sperm manufacture. Meanwhile, I too, wish you both well with a happy outcome. Kind regards Diane
Hi Diane. I have now spoken to the clinic and we have a date for our first consultation. I will certainly give the vitamins etc a go. Thankyou for taking your time to answer my question.
Hi, our first appointment with the fertility clinic was a year and a half ago. since then my husband has had a hernia op, a mesa (sperm collection op) and we have had 3 cycles of IVF. Our clinic has no waiting list. Depending on where your living depends on waiting times. Hope this helps. Good luck
