viability scan - twins but only one heartbeat

hello all

I’ve been on this site before through my ivf times. It took me 3 transfers to fall pregnant with my son (who sadly died at 16 weeks), my fourth transfer gave us our rainbow baby girl.

I’ve recently found out I’m pregnant naturally which was the biggest shock of my life as I had already paid for a sibling transfer and was waiting for my cycle to start to start meds.

Anyway, been for a viability scan today and one baby is measuring broadly where it should be with a heartbeat and to our shock, there was a second baby, measuring a week behind with no heartbeat.

Twin A measuring about 6w 2D

Twin B measuring 5w 2D

has this ever happened to anyone? If so what was the outcome? I’m realistic to the possibility that twin B might not make it but curious as to others experience.

thank you

congratulations 💜 it sounds like one baby is doing great! On the one measuring a week behind with no heartbeat I didn’t have a great outcome with this bit then it was IVF so exact dates were known and with this being a natural pregnancy and twins I think that changes things a bit I terms of chances being a bit higher of it catching up etc.

Are they scanning you again soon to see as progression in the next week will tell you a lot more than just the one scan 🤗 xx

Thank you for the reply, I recognise your username I think from when I used to use this forum regularly. Hope you are ok!

I’m definitely realistic to the possibility that the twin may have disappeared by the next scan. I’m going to book one at my EPAU in 2 weeks time (this scan was done privately). It’s one sack with two inside, so apparently very rare. Only time will tell I guess! Xx
