I had a massive gush of blood at 14 weeks, literal bloodbath, thought we’d lost the baby. Turned out to be a 9cm sch.
After the bleed I bled for about 2-3 days more and then it tapered off to brown for about 2 weeks. In the last week, the discharge has increased and varies in colour to dark red, brown, a rusty brown. I don’t know whether this is the sch draining. But I hate seeing the discharge and just want it to stop. I have a scan in 2 days to check on the sch.
I am attaching a photo, please can anyone tell me if this is fresh or old blood? It is a rusty brown colour.
I am absolutely terrified of losing this baby, as I know I’m at a risk of preterm labour. Currently 17 weeks. I lost my son who was stillborn last year, so the anxiety is very high for me.
If anyone has any experiences to share of a large sch in the second trimester, please do. I have been on pretty much bed rest for the last 3 weeks, hoping that the sch has gotten smaller.

hey x sorry to hear your having so much anxiety when you should be enjoying this time 🩷 I had 2 bleeds from SCH
One at 7 weeks
Was a small bleed and then had the rusty spotting and blood for a few weeks
Then I had another one at 18 weeks that was massive like clots and blood just pouring out of me. I was in hospital as I woke up with the bleeding and it just got worse
For that one, once the big bleed stopped I didn’t get any spotting again, maybe one or two days after just a little bit.
I’m now 32 weeks and everything is ok
I really think it depends on where the hematoma is and if the blood can come out easily or if it is still healing. Some resolve quickly others can bleed for the whole pregnancy
It’s scary but I believe if your not experiencing painful cramps try not to worry
I would say if in doubt just keep calling and keep getting checked out as there is no harm in that and it may give you some reassurance and reduce the stress.
I’ve had ongoing spotting throughout, not quite the same but I know how blooming stressful it is when strange and unexpected things happen, especially when blood is involved. I really am so sorry you’re going through this.
I call and call the midwives and they keep reassuring me that’s what they are there for and I have had to get used to it being my bag, i so hope you’re ok, keep getting checked and get reassured and hang in there.
Seeing spotting whatever colour I think in pregnancy is scary honestly. It’s such a delicate time. I am consultant led so getting regular checks at the moment and my midwife is great and does a Doppler check whenever I’m anxious. Thank you so much, I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well and uneventful! x
