Spotting second trimester

hello,

Me again,

so after some spotting on Saturday and going to EPAU and having a scan (all was fine and baby was measuring perfectly) we were sent home with no explanation.

This morning it’s happened again but not as much, it’s only when I first wake up after using the loo.

Again we went to the hospital, heard baby’s heartbeat, had some checks and speculum exam and everything looks okay. I’ve had some swabs taken but the doctor said everything looks as it should.

Has anyone else had this? I’m really on edge now and worried it’ll happen again, it’s also worrying me that there’s no apparent reason for it.

If anyone can give some reassurance I’d appreciate it xx

Hi, I had some brown spotting around 8 to 10 weeks on and off, it then returned around week 12 when I stopped progesterone.

Like you I had scans and tests at the epau and they could give me no explanation. I pushed for more progesterone which they gave me up until 16 weeks (I actually started reducing my dose so I could take for as long as possible) and it improved although still happened occasionally and I worried every time.

It stopped eventually and I am currently 28 weeks. Really hope it stops for you as it is so scary to see any blood when pregnant.

Thank you! Glad everything is okay! It’s really scary seeing any blood. I haven’t had any blood or spotting at all for the whole pregnancy until now so it’s strange to suddenly start! Xx

Hi ZiggyandBC. Have you had a urine test in case it is a bit of infection. If th placenta is a bit low it could be that and hopefully will settle down. it seems to happen overnight, then when you stand up it trickles out. Hopefully it is nothing and will settle down. Diane

Hi Diane,

I’ve had one done today to check for any infections as well as some swabs taken. Yes it happens first thing on a morning and then nothing for the rest of the day. So strange. Thank you

hello! Sorry you’re experiencing this, so scary! I had a bleed a few weeks ago at 15+5. I wasn’t able to get answers at epu after their checks/scan. But a couple of weeks later after a lot of cramps the maternity unit found a slight historical bleed behind the placenta, which they hadn’t been able to view when it first happened (presumably because of where the placenta was at the time). I found it hard not knowing where it was coming from, so I have been getting a lot more private scans to keep an eye on it. Hope you’re feeling ok x

Hey, thank you for your reply. Glad they managed to find out why and everything is okay. I think I’d feel a bit less anxious if they could tell me why but then again I guess it’s good that there’s nothing to suggest any problems. Fingers crossed it won’t happen again xx

Hello lovely,

In my last and only successful pregnancy that gave me my miracle rainbow baby, I had spotting and bleeding both throughout the second and the third trimesters... They told me that sometimes if the placenta is low, this can cause spotting, but my placenta wasn't low. I had lots of tests done and they couldn't find a reason. I was prescribed progesterone and asked to rest as much as possible, but I think that was because I had other issues too and it was a high risk pregnancy. Take care, lovely, and hopefully, it won't happen to you again xx

Thank you for replying ❤️ We had a scan when it first happened and baby is fine and measuring perfectly and then the second time we went in again and heard baby’s heartbeat and it was all fine, I had some checks but they couldn’t find any reason for it. It’s hard not knowing why and now I’m really on edge and finding it hard to enjoy, hoping it doesn’t last and goes away 🤞🏻 Xx
