7 weeks - low (and small) gestational sac, and sub chorionic haematoma

hello,

Hoping someone can provide some reassurance. I am - after two gruelling years of IVF - pregnant for the first time. Whilst I’m grateful beyond measure, our 7w scan on Monday showed the wee baby measuring perfectly for 7 weeks, but a gestational sac measuring the size of 6 weeks and 2 days. It is also lying very low. On top of this, I have a sub chorionic bleed. My doctor has taken me off clexane for a few days and asked me to repeat the scan in two weeks.

At a time I thought I’d feel elation.. I feel terrified and am trying to understand what the combination of these three issues might mean. Does anyone have experience of these issues that might provide some insight or comfort? Xxx

Hope you get some helpful replies to your post The bleeding noted is very common with pregnancy between 10 to 20 wks and it can resolve over 1-2 wks

hello lovely,

I’m so sorry it’s never straightforward with IVF.

I don’t know about the small sac but I had a subchorionic haematoma early in my pregnancy and all was fine. It took a few weeks to dissipate but obviously any blood in pregnancy is terrifying.

Hope you get some answers soon - keeping my fingers crossed for you xxx

Congratulations!!I had a SCH in this pregnancy (currently 13weeks), I've have 3 quite substantial bleeds from it between 5 and 8 weeks but baby has been absolutely fine throughout. EPU have been scanning me every 2 weeks to check up on it and it had basically gone at my 12 week scan. As previous posters said it's common in early pregnancy and particularly IVF but unsure why! I'm not sure about the gestational sac measuring behind, is your clinic able to offer any reassurance?

Hope you find some reassurance and have a smooth rest of your pregnancy

I had a SCH with my son (bigger than the sac) and its resolved itself but was very worrying and is of course a risk factor so I dont want to play it down but in our case it was okay. 🤗 I’ve had baby measuring small before but not the actual sac so I can’t help compare there but they did say once they can see fetal pole etc that’s the more important part than the sac size to me at early scans so I can understand the worry but there defo sounds like a reason to be hopeful, did they see a heartbeat? 💜 willing your little one on xx

We did! Heart rate was 120 at 7 weeks. Still feeling sick at night too so hoping that’s a good sign!! I thought if I got pregnant the worry would be over but it seems it’s not so! Thanks for this reassuring reply xx

I’m sorry you are going through such a worrying time. I’ve had 5 scans now due to OHSS and currently 11 weeks. We had a similar situation, where at 8 week scan the baby was measuring 8 weeks 3 days and the sac was 7 weeks 1 day. Naturally we were quite alarmed, and I took to Google (which was a terrible idea!!!) and had a very anxious two week wait before our follow up scan at 10 weeks. At the scan, I asked about the sac and she said it looked fine, plenty of fluid and room for the baby which was now measuring 10 weeks 5 days. She said it might be a bit small if they measured it, but they don’t normally bother from 10 weeks. She was not bothered at all…so, it might just resolve itself. I’m sorry I can’t give you more reassurance, but hopefully that does help a tiny bit.

Good luck with everything 🥰

Hey, I had a sub chorionic bleed. It ruptured at around 7 weeks and sent me into a panic. Baby was absolutely fine and I'm currently holding him in my arms (he's 3 weeks tomorrow). Hopefully everything will be fine. Good luck x
