Bleeding - low lying placenta

Just looking if anyone has any experience and can relate…

Wednesday morning I had a bleed (period like) and was admitted to hospital. I got monitored for 24 hours and have been discharged. Told that it’s common with placenta previa/low lying placenta and to monitor the bleeding. May have more, may not.

However, I am still spotting which they did say would happen. But if anyone has had the same how long does the spotting normally last for?

Any advice with this I’d really appreciate.

Thank you!

Hi. I’m sure they willl have explained that this type of placenta can move up as the womb stretches, so it settles down. Hopefully your pregnancy’s swill continue as it should. Thinking of you. Diane

Thanks Diane, yes the doctor did say it can still move up as I am 26weeks at the moment, nearly 27. I just wondered how long people normally have spotting for.

Thanks for reply

Hi. If it’s moving up, probably one more week. Baby is just growing now, so it should pull up not down I expect you have been warned about a urine infection which can cause spotting, so drink plenty? Of water so you have clear urine and don’t get constipated. Diane

Thank you for the advice - I will do.

Did they advise you to restrict any exercise or anything like that? Also did they say anything about the placenta being in the front (anterior) or prosterior (at the back)? If any more bleeding, let your care provider know. Thinking of you ❤️

No, didn’t say to restrict anything. Said it could be where the cervix is stretching and the placenta has lifted slightly. I have prosterior.

Thank you!

OK! I also have a low placenta prosterior. I was told at 20 weeks but then advised a week after to not do any strenuous exercise and no sexual intercourse. I have had no bleeding. But now that I hear that you have I am thinking is that a good sign that it has moved up for you. I find out next week on Wednesday when I am 31 weeks if it has moved or not. I am hoping it has and I hope the same for you too. The bleeding might be a blessing in disguise for you if you get me that it has migrated. I'm terrified if mine hasn't moved I wish you the best but I can let you know on Wednesday here if it has moved up after my scan? ❤️

Ah bless you, my friend had the exact same, had no bleeding and hers had moved so try to stay positive. I think everyone’s body is just so different and the doctor did say to me some people have bleeding, some people don’t.

Yes please do! X

It really is that, everyone's body being different. It sounds like you got some great supportive advice from your care provider. I was left confused and nothing really explained to me, only to hold off on exercises etc but I will be honest I think that is more precautionary. I am going back to doing my walking because I want to make sure baby turns head down also. That is myself making that decision. Thank you for letting me know about your friend ❤️ it is very reassuring. I think us momma's sharing with each other is the best support system. I will definitely message here on Wednesday evening when I find out. I hope all works out for us ❤️

Yeah that’s all you can do. I wasn’t really informed regarding the bleeding etc, but now am fully aware. I think it’s also quite common with a low lying/placenta previa. Definitely agree, fingers are crossed for you that it’s moved. X

I am glad you are aware and that it is okay, hopefully you don't get too much more bleeding 🤞 this is it, it could happen at any time aswell, even after birth. Will let you know on Wednesday. Keep well ❤️

I have placenta previa and I have had 2 bleeding episodes (23 and 25 weeks). I probably spotted for a week after each episode. Both occurrd on my commute to work so now I’m wfh on a permanent basis and pelvic rest. I have a scan at 30 weeks (next week) to see if it’s moved. Xx

Thanks for replying. Did you have to stay in hospital after the bleeds? Sorry to hear you’ve also suffered with this and I hope it moves for you. I think it seems to be common having bleeds with the placenta issue, just very scary. Hope scan goes ok. Xx

I did for 24 hours monitoring. It’s just scary to see, and generally you feel fine, I just think bleeding of any kind sparks panic and you think the worst. I have already been discussing a c section ( I had to have an emergency c section with my first child) so if it doesn’t move it will just make my birth plan clearer.

Rest definitely helped even with the spotting. Good luck with your scan, Wednesday is a big day for us 😘

Hello, Just to let you know that I had my scan today at 31 weeks and 6 days and I got great news that my prosterior low lying placenta has moved up so it is 4 cm from the OS. I have been so worried and concerned about this since my 20 week scan. I just want anyone to know who has a prosterior placenta that is low that it is possible for it to move. This is the type of information I was hoping to see online when I was looking for answers, so it is possible. I have been cleared for a vaginal delivery which I was hoping for all going well ❤️

Thank you. I wanted to come back here to give mother's with a prosterior low placenta some hope. I was also told it should move more as I get closer to my due date. I hope all goes well for you also ❤️
