low lying posterior placenta blocking birth canal at 17 weeks scan

Hi,

Just wanted some advise on this ..

I’m been told that I have low lying placenta blocking birth canal in 17 weeks scan and bit terrified after hearing the news.

What precautions I need to take care now . Can I travel in car ? Do I need bed rest ? 30 mins walking which I normally do should I stop now ? Anyone with good news of placenta going up and if so at how many weeks it went up?

I hope it goes up for me .. traumatised of bleeding and loosing baby. So any advise would help please

anybody on similar situation ? Is it common for ivf babies to have low lying placenta ?

Please don't worry - this is really normal. The placenta can be in any position during pregnancy.

Mine was over the cervix throughout the pregnancy and it moved up in the last week! (I had a planned c-section anyway but still...)

You don't need to change anything unless you've been advised by your doctor. I carried on as normal.

Hello Millbanks, I hope all went well for you. Can I ask how much did it go up by? I am 22 weeks and a low prosterior placenta near the entrance but not covering it. This is my 3rd pregnancy. I am terrified because I read that a prosterior placenta may not migrate like an anterior placenta would. I'd love another natural birth especially as I have 2 other young kids to be there to be able to look after them. Thank you.

Hi lovely, mine moved completely so I would have been able to try vaginally but by this point I’d got my head around a c-sec so I went for that x

Thank you for that. The lady at the scan was positive but my midwifes did not give me any hope. Thank you for this. I need to try to enjoy my pregnancy xx

Hi, I agree with Millbanks, I know it's easier said than done but try not to panic. As the baby grows more often than not the placenta moves up. Mine was completely covering my cervix and I was told no sex but unless I started contractions or bleeding not to worry at all. They might schedule a c-section if it stays low lying. Mine didn't move but that was because of other complications but despite even these, everything was fine in the end xx

Don't worry, this is so common especially at the stage you're at. It moves in most cases, although sometimes not until quite late. I had this last pregnancy and it moved up pretty quickly and I have it again this time but as it's my second i probably won't be offered another scan until 32/33 weeks to confirm, in the meantime I haven't been told to do anything differently. I was told to think of it as your womb being like a balloon and as it expands the placenta gets pulled upwards and outwards, away from the cervix. So liklihood is it will have moved by the end of the second trimester or early in the third, but if not it can move right before the birth sometimes. You should get extra monitoring, especially if this is your first, and they will keep a close eye on it.

Hello, Just to let you know that I had my scan today at 31 weeks and 6 days and I got great news that my prosterior low lying placenta has moved up so it is 4 cm from the OS. I have been so worried and concerned about this since my 20 week scan. I just want anyone to know who has a prosterior placenta that is low that it is possible for it to move. This is the type of information I was hoping to see online when I was looking for answers, so it is possible. I have been cleared for a vaginal delivery which I was hoping for all going well ❤️
