Anterior placenta - still no movements felt at 24 weeks

Did anyone not feel movement until after 24 weeks? I’ve seen my baby moving in scans but not ever actually felt anything. I know it can take longer when the placenta is anterior but I’m starting to get worried. Will siren to midwife next week.

Hi, have you felt any flutters at all? Please visit triage and asked to be assessed, tell them your age and that your pregnancy is high risk ie age, IVF, BP. They will check heartrate but may be too soon to do ctg xx

I saw her moving last week at a scan x

Hi, that would be my advice for added reassurance xx

Everything is probably fine as you had a scan recently but call your hospitals triage unit today to get checked. They take movements really seriously and are happy to reassure us.Have you had any bubbles/flutters that are more like trapped gas? Drink a fizzy drink/eat some sweets and lie down on your left side for half an hour and see if you notice anything xxx

I called and have just been up there. Listened to baby and they are happy. Even kept telling me when she kicked and I couldn’t feel it!!!! X

So glad you visited triage and that all is okay x

They now decided I need to see consultant as protocol says that as not felt her yet at 24 weeks so just waiting. But it’s all good. Glad I came x

Yes, normally midwife will not let you leave triage especially if you are high risk. Consultant needs to give you green light before you can go home. Keep me posted on here or DM x

Said might want to do a scan x

Good, hopefully you will get fetal medicine team scans when your pregnancy progresses x

I have an anterior placenta and have felt mine a little since 20 weeks but more now at 24 weeks. But my sister also had an anterior placenta and felt nothing at all until just after 24 weeks x

Thankyou. All ok just waiting to see consultant as apparently that’s the protocol x

I have anterior placenta and didn’t really feel until week 26. At beginning just felt like irritate bowels so didn’t realise that was movement but was happening all the time so that was movement. After 30 weeks it was definite kicks

Thankyou! I’m here now. Heard heartbeat and all good but apparently protocol says I need to see consultant so just waiting x

I had an anterior placenta as well. Couldn't feel baby move but she was moving on scans, ended up having to get monitoring every 2 days , she was fine, was just me that couldn't feel her moving 🤦‍♀️I think I started feeling her more around 30 weeks.

Doodlebug23 profile image
Doodlebug23 in reply toLeii9

I could hear her kicking just not feel it. Now will be seeing consultant next week. Was your monitoring until you started to feel her at 30 weeks?

Leii9 profile image
Leii9 in reply toDoodlebug23

Yes, monitoring was until around there, my gynecologist was super cautious throughout my pregnancy. Once i did start to feel her kick, they told me to come in right away if i stopped feeling movement.

She ended up getting induced at 41+2 .

Not feeling movement is soooo stressful 😅

Doodlebug23 in reply toLeii9

Just something else to add to the pile of stuff to worry about! I’ve got consultant on 2nd now so I’m hoping they will want to monitor me more. I’ll be induced at 39 weeks but tbh I would like it sooner if this is going to be the way forward…

It's a never ending journey of stress, more to come once baby arrives, but all worth it. I miss being pregnant very much, i tried to enjoy it as much as possible as with my age, i don't think i will get the opportunity for another pregnancy.

This will be my only pregnancy too due to age, money and no embryos left.

Try and enjoy it as much as possible then 😊🤗

I also had an anterior placenta and hardly felt my little boy throughout my pregnancy. I first noticed his movements after 24 weeks but they were subtle. Around 30 weeks I did notice when he moved but once again not very much. I did end up at the hospital quite a few times in later stages of my pregnancy because I couldn’t feel him and when they checked he was fine.

If you are worried at any point in the pregnancy just contact the maternity services at the hospital. They are great.

I wish you the best of luck. X

Guess I’ll be prepping myself for that then! It’s not very helpful when you google that all it says it you should feel by 24 weeks and if but contact midwife! I’m so thankful for all the wonderful people on this forum!

When I spoke to my consultant she said that even if I didn’t have an anterior placenta it would be highly unlikely for me to feel the baby around 24 weeks as it was my first pregnancy and that it would be a bit later than that. Every time I had a scan my baby boy was seen to be constantly wriggling yet I couldn’t feel him. It was anxiety inducing but it all turned out fine. I wish I had enjoyed my pregnancy more now. Xx

I know they say don’t google, but it all says you should feel from 24 weeks. And the midwife at the hospital said to contact them if didn’t feel anything. It’s so anxiety inducing! I’m hoping now I know it can be normal I’ll relax more!

I couldn’t feel my boy and had scans right up until I gave birth. CGT and ultrasound. He was definitely wriggling away. My placenta was posteria. In the later stages I felt him but not consistently. No idea why. He was a big baby, I’d put on more weight than I had expected (blame the IVF drugs) so maybe I was cushioning his movement. I’ve also always had quite a high pain barrier.

Consultants should be able to book you in for twice weekly CGT scans with the midwives, they did with me and I just rebooked with the midwives. You can also contact midwives directly.

But it is a worry, especially after the journey we have been on.

They should offer you help though and having them twice weekly really helped me as well when I went for the ultrasound and that gap between them scanning you and saying anything which always seemed to last forever and really stressed me out. Knowing he had been wiggling away a couple of days ago made that less stressful.

They listened to her yesterday and the consultant is booking me in for 2nd September. Just feels like another thing to worry about when I had finally started to enjoy it 😏 And like you say after all it’s taken to get here….

I don’t think I felt much until around that time. I felt little taps at first but I had to really tune into them. Quiet room, and lying down or slouching in a chair was when I could start to feel them. I didn’t get flutter feelings with my first, just little taps and pops. I had posterior placenta with my first. Felt movements much earlier with my second and her placenta was anterior 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

They’ll come, try not to worry. You are doing everything right. Keep in contact as you are with your midwife, before long your little baby will be kicking you in the bladder xx

I’m getting sharp pains under my ribs and a few pains across tummy. Just put them down to stretching. Definitely no flutters, pops or waves people talk about. I’ve got consultant appt now 2nd Sep x

Hi there.I hardly felt any movement with my little lady.I had no issues with placenta. She would be wriggling away and so active in scans. It was only towards 30 weeks I'd say that I felt her move and even at that it wasn't often. It was mostly just flutters.I only had one night the whole pregnancy where i couldnt sleep due to her having a little dance party.Obviously plenty of nights i was uncomfortable and couldn't sleep but only once due to her moving about. She is now a very healthy 15month old.xx

I cannot believe how many replies are saying the same thing! I’m so grateful for this forum and all the amazing people on it.

Did you have any additional monitoring? I now have a consultant appt next week but not sure what they will do. I heard the kicks last week when I went up to the hosp so thankfully everything is ok x

Gerbear22 profile image
Gerbear22 in reply toDoodlebug23

No extra monitoring as she would be wriggling away in scans and there was no issue with her but i actually got myself a hand held doppler after 20 weeks so I could hear her heart and monitor it.Not the done thing and SO many people will advise against it but I suffered from extreme anxiety during my pregnancy and it was the only thing that kept me sane.Otherwise I would have been up to the hospital every day.x

Doodlebug23 in reply toGerbear22

Funny you should mention that! A couple people said they got one and then midwife specifically said not to lol! X

hello. I was exactly the same I felt pretty much nothing. For nearly all of my pregnancy. I started to feel much more after 30 weeks and near the end I could feel her moving about. But even then it wasn’t much. I had to, on a number of occasion give her a good prod or down a sugary drink. Xxx

When I went to the hospital to get checked a few times she was moving about all over the place …. I didn’t feel a thing. They said press the button when you feel it …. Nothing, but the machine showed heaps of movement xxx

Doodlebug23 in reply toBoo718

Thankyou so much for your reply! Why does literally nothing on google say this??!! When I went to the hospital they said I was too early to go on the monitor but they would listen to her heartbeat. Could hear it really clearly and then there would be a single sound. She says there’s a kick! But I felt nothing!!!

Mine is anterior as well. I did feel a little around 24 weeks, now 26 weeks and it's still quite sporadic and all over the place. Occasional strong patches, then nothing 🤦🏼‍♀️ I know it's not the same as not feeling at all - but I feel like the anxiety is real. Stupid placenta. 😞

Doodlebug23 profile image
Doodlebug23 in reply toKeggles36

It just feels like everything puts so much on feel them at 24 weeks and it should be regular. I was starting to relax and enjoy it and now feels like there’s something else to worry about 😢
